What is BLAST?

Blast is a Layer 2 network envisioned by Pacman, the mastermind behind Blur, employing the Optimistic Rollup mechanism.

As a Layer 2 solution, Blast aims to create not just an execution environment but also a platform where funds within accounts can earn passive income. Blast supports users in staking ETH and stablecoins, allowing them to generate passive returns. Specifically, when users bridge ETH or stablecoins to Blast, the platform stakes ETH through Lido to earn yields and stakes stablecoins through MakerDAO to earn yields as well.

How does Blast work?

AUTO REBASING

Users transact in ETH. Dapps are built around ETH. Blast was designed from the ground up so that ETH itself is natively rebasing on the L2.

L1 STAKING

Blast only became possible this year following Ethereum's Shanghai upgrade. ETH yield from L1 staking, initially Lido, is automatically transferred to users via rebasing ETH on the L2.

T-BILL YIELD

Users who bridge stablecoins receive USDB, Blast's auto-rebasing stablecoin. The yield for USDB comes from MakerDAO's on-chain T-Bill protocol. USDB can be redeemed for USDC when bridging back to Ethereum.

What's in it for the devs?

NATIVE YIELD

Yield as a primitive unlocks new business models for Dapps. ETH and stablecoins bridged to Blast automatically earn yield. Dapps can easily monetize deposits with a single config.

GAS FEE REVENUE

Other L2s keep revenue from gas fees for themselves. Blast gives this revenue back to developers programatically. Keep this revenue for yourself or use it to subsidize gas fees for your users.

AIRDROP

50% of the Blast Airdrop has been reserved for developers. The Developer Airdrop launches in January along with the Blast Testnet.
