Near Gas Guzzlers

Analyzing contracts base on amount of gas they spent

    Introduction

Near is a public, sharded, extensible blockchain network based on the proof-of-stake (POS) paradigm. Developers can use this platform to launch their own decentralized applications (similar to the Ethereum network). The token of this network is called NEAR, which is the functional token of this network.

    Method

    1. first, we found the top 10 contracts that spend gas higher than other
    2. Then for change over the past week and month, I chose to use the top 30 contracts that spend higher gas for the better view and find out if the top 10 contracts changed over time or no.
    3. I used 3 ways to show the change :
    • I used the animated time series bar to show live how the amount of gas that spent changed over the past week or month or if the top 10 contracts changed over time
    • normalize area graph to show the percent for each contracts over time
    • and for the last I used a bar graph Because of its ease and to show daily amount for each contracts

    Information:

In the figure on the right we see the 10 contract that spend the most gas for all time and from it, we can find out that aurora contract has spent more than 2b gas, and it is normal because the aurora  application which is layer 2 solution in the NEAR. In second place there is near crows contract which belongs to protocol that users can earn near token with performing simple tasks.

The difference between the first to second place is huge, and aurora almost spend 5.5x more.

    Conclusion

    1. The answer for the first question is that Aurora has spent the gas in the network more than any contract with huge difference to the second place which is nearcrowd contract. The rest of contracts that spent gas more than others are: v2.nearapps.near,v1.nearapps.near,x.paras.near,client.bridge.near,v2.ref-finance.near,priceoracle.near,wrap.near,near
    2. aurora and near crowd keep the leading in the last 7 and 30 days too, and we had newcomers in the top10 which are Pembrock, ref_farming, zomland and usn contract and some contracts such as V1.nearapps and v2.nearapps had left the top contracts that spent most gas in the last 7 and 30 days

    Overview

    This dashboard would cover:

    1. What contracts are users spending the most gas on to use?
    2. How has this changed over the past week? Past month?

    Information:

Aurora and nearcrowd had maintained their position as the first and second rank over the past week, But the interesting thing happened last week was the significant growth of Zomland in spending gas because in the beginning of the week, the percentage of gas spending (figure:daily percent) for it was about 0.83%, but at the end of the week, we see a significant percentage of 5.72% But if we look more closely at the data and especially the amount of spending gas we can see that the difference between gas spending amount for zomland in the first day and last day of the week is very little and the percent increase due to decrease of gas spent on aurora contract

Because on the first day of the week, it had an amount of 11M gas unit and at the end of the week it had a value of 1.29M, and we saw an amazing decrease from it.

One other important information that we can get from these charts is that v2.nearapps.near and v1.nearapps.near had no place in top 10 contracts that spent most of the gas in the last week, unlike all time data.

In overall, the gas that spent in the first two days of the week is very high compare to rest of the week

    Information:

first, let us compare the first day stats of the month with last one :

    • The percent of nearcrowd (9.49%) in the first of the month was close to client.bridge (9.23%) than by time the percent of gas consuming for nearcrowd increased rapidly to reach 23.13% on the lat day of the month, and we can conclude that more users use nearcrowd contract by time.
    • Aurora, had protected her percentage well by time and the difference between the first and last day is not that much, but we say there was increasing from 48% to 52%

Second information we can get from these charts is from Jul 16th to Jul 21st Aurora spent unusual and high gas unit which the amount reach 11.32M gas unit on its peak.

Another important information is about the usn contract, the usn contract was in the top 10 in total gas spending in the last 30 days but if we see the daily stats we can see that most of this gas spending was on the first days of the month (almost 850M gas unit)

    additional info

The Aurora Network is a layer 2 solution in the NEAR protocol that allows developers to build EVM-compatible decentralized applications (DAPPs) on top of the NEAR network.

The nearcrowd is a protocol that users can earn near token with performing simple tasks.

    Information:

This figure show us which contract spent most gas in total. We can see that aurora and near like the all-time data keeps their first and second rank, The difference that we can see here is that Zomland entered the first ten ranks, and it is ranked third And this week we have another newcomers which are Pembrock and ref_farming contracts, and they spent more than 502K and 157K gas unit Respectively last week. These three newcomers in the top 10, took the place from v1,v2.nearapps and near contracts. Another important thing is that Aurora still keep his leading with huge difference from another contracts

    Information:

the difference in names between the lat weeks and the last month is little, the near contract entered the top 10, and we had one newcomer in the list which is usn contract with spending more than 1M gas unit, aurora and near crowd keep the leading here too
