The Battle of The SG-1 vs GAME Validators on Cosmos Hub!

In-Depth comparison of SG-1 vs GAME Validators on Cosmos Hub.

    What is Cosmos?

Cosmos (ATOM) is a decentralized network of independent blockchains, each powered by Byzantine Fault-Tolerant (BFT) consensus algorithms.

$ATOM is the native staking token of the Cosmos Network. The Cosmos vision is to build an “internet of blockchains” that can scale and interoperate with one another.

    $ATOM has three use cases:

as a spam-prevention mechanism (paying fees)

    • as staking tokens
    • as a voting mechanism in governance

    Cosmos Validator

The Cosmos Hub is based on Tendermint which relies on a set of validators to secure the network. The role of validators is to run a full node and participate in consensus by broadcasting votes that contain cryptographic signatures signed by the validator's private key. Validators commit new blocks in the blockchain and receive revenue in exchange for their work. Validators must also participate in governance by voting on proposals. Validators are weighted according to their total stake. (Read More…)

    Cosmos Delegator

Delegators are ATOM holders who cannot, or do not want to, run a validator themselves. ATOM holders can delegate ATOM to a validator and obtain a part of their revenue in exchange.

Because delegators share revenue with their validators, they also share risks. If a validator misbehaves, each of their delegators are partially slashed in proportion to their delegated stake. This penalty is one of the reasons why delegators must perform due diligence on validators before delegating. Spreading their stake over multiple validators is another layer of protection.

Delegators play a critical role in the system, as they are responsible for choosing validators. Being a delegator is not a passive role. Delegators must actively monitor the actions of their validators and participate in governance. (Read More…)

    SG-1 Validator

    Your favorite team on Cosmos!

SG-1 is a professional node infrastructure provider in the Cosmos ecosystem. SG-1 offers cutting-edge validator architecture for the Interchain Era.

SG-1 is currently in the 5th rank of top Cosmos validators (by voting power) which provides 21.10% APR to its delegators.

    GAME Validator

    For all game enthusiasts!

GAME is another Cosmos validator which is currently in the 9th rank of top Cosmos validators (by voting power) and provides 21.08% APR to its delegators.

    Dashboard Introduction & Methodology

On the occasion of the significant raise of SG-1 & GAME validators during recent months and reaching the top 10 Cosmos validators, In this dashboard, I am going to use __Flipside’s new Cosmos Hub data __to provide some useful details about these 2 validators. (These validators currently provide one of the highest APRs among Cosmos validators and also take the least commission from delegators)

Another reason That I have decided to analyze these 2 validators is that I have realized that these 2 have attracted a significant number and volume of delegations after proposal #82 during performing an analysis of this proposal on the Cosmos hub for the Flipside team. (Link to the Analysis)

In this analysis, I am going to compare these 2 validators in terms of Delegate & Redelegate activity over them and also their participation in Cosmos governance proposals.

For this, The main table that I am going to use for this bounty is cosmos.core.fact_msg_attributes table.

    • SG-1 Operator Address: cosmosvaloper196ax4vc0lwpxndu9dyhvca7jhxp70rmcvrj90c
    • SG-1 Address: cosmos196ax4vc0lwpxndu9dyhvca7jhxp70rmcfhxsrt
    • GAME Operator Address: cosmosvaloper1qaa9zej9a0ge3ugpx3pxyx602lxh3ztqgfnp42
    • GAME Address: cosmos1qaa9zej9a0ge3ugpx3pxyx602lxh3ztqda85ee

Delegate: First, I have extracted the transaction_IDs of delegate actions by filtering the msg_type column to ‘delegate’ and attribute_key to ‘validator’. the attribute value of this table would be the actual validator operator address, So, We have to filter this column to our validators operator addresses (mentioned above). By filtering the msg_type column to ‘delegate’ and attribute_key to ‘amount’, we can extract the actual unadjusted Delegate amount (in $ATOM) from attribute_value and by dividing this number by 10^6, the adjusted delegate amount will be extracted. Moreover, by By filtering the msg_type column to ‘coin_spent’ and attribute_key to ‘spender’, the attribute_value column gives us the wallet address of the delegator. (considering that we should also filter msg & attribute indexes to ’0’)

Redelegate To/From: the methodology for extracting the Redelegations is similar to the Delegate actions but instead of 1 validator, there are 2 validators on a Redelegate activity. one is the source validator and another is the destination. So, We have to filter the source_validator and destination_validator columns to our validators operator addresses in order to analyse data of Redelegates To or From the related validator.

    Overall Stats

According to the above charts, the number and volume of all actions and also the number of users on SG-1 validator is more than GAME and the only metric that GAME has the lead on that is Minimum volume of actions which is important!

Totally, we can see the number and also volume of Redelegates From these validators are more than Redelegates To these validators.

So, As the ranking of the validators’ on Cosmos Hub shows us, SG-1 is more popular and more worthy than GAME.

Based on the above charts, The most number of “Delegate” actions on both validators are done with less than 5 $ATOM. totally, the share of different volume types on both validators is almost the same but the interesting thing is that the share of Delegate actions with more than 1000 $ATOM on GAME is almost 2x more than share of high-volume delegates on SG-1.

In terms of ReDelegate To actions, we can also see almost similar share of different volume types on both validators and the majority of actions are on both are done with 10 - 100 $ATOM. However, the share of ReDelegate actions with more than 1000 $ATOM To SG-1 is more than To GAME.

And in terms of Redelegate From actions, we can also see almost similar share of different volume types on both validators and majority of actions are done with 10 - 100 $ATOM (similar to the ReDelegates To validators).

    Daily, Weekly & Over-Time Stats

In an average day, the number and volume of actions and also the number of users (delegators) in all actions on SG-1 is more than GAME and thats why this validator has higher rank than GAME.

    Delegate

Based on the above charts, in majority of days, SG-1 has by far the lead in all terms of volume and number of actions and also users. Highest peak of Delegates to GAME validator was during Dec 2021 - January 2022, but after this timespan, we can see quite decreasing activity (especially in terms of volume) of this validator over time. on SG-1, we can see an increasing activity and volume of delegates till May 2022 but after this date (and maybe because of the Terra collapse), there is almost a constant trend of delegate activity on SG-1 over time. The average volume of delegates on both Validators is significantly decreasing over time and especially after May and also during November and this can be mainly because of the market bearish situation mainly because of the Terra & FTX Collapses. Totally, in terms of volume, GAME had the lead till late-January 2022 but after this month, SG-1 has totally overtaken GAME in all terms.

According to the above charts, The number and especially the volume of ReDelegates To both validators is decreasing over time. The highest peak of Redelegates To both validators was during December 2021 - Late-March 2022 but after this date, there is a significant decline in Redelegates To these validators over time. Moreover, we can see some sudden high spikes on the average volume of Redelegates To these validators over time but the total average volume has almost a constant trend line. Similar to the Delegations, in this terms also, SG-1 has by far the lead in almost all days.

based on the above charts, as mentioned earlier, firstly we can see the higher activity and also volume of Redelegates FROM these validators compared to the Redelegates TO them in almost all days. The most activity of Redelegates from these validators have achieved during January - April 2022. But in terms of volume, we can still see high volume of Redelegates From these validators over time especially on SG-1 which is increasing more and more as time goes on ! Totally, we can see the share of Redelegates From GAME was more than SG-1 during the first months of the charts but after a while and especially after April 2022, we can see increasing share of SG-1 and on the other hand, decreasing share of GAME as time goes on.

On the left charts, we can see the number of new and total Delegators on these validators over time.

As we see, The highest peak of new delegators on both Validators have been achieved during DEC 2021 - March 2022 but after this timespan, we can see quite decreasing trend of new delegators on both validators especially GAME as time goes on.

    Delegators Stats

The interesting thing is that despite higher total volume and number of actions on SG-1 (that we have seen earlier), the average number and volume of Delegate actions per Delegator on GAME validator is more than SG-1.

This means that an average GAME delegator is more active and also more worthy than SG-1 delegator.

But in terms of Redelegates TO & FROM these validators, we can still see the leading of SG-1.

On the above charts, we can see the distribution of users of each action on both validators based on their number and also volume of actions.

As we see, there are almost equal share of different type of actions and volume on both validators meaning that the overall behavior of delegators on both validators are so similar to each other.

    Loading...

And on the above charts, we can see the top 10 delegator of each action on each validator in terms of number and volume of actions.

With an overall comparison, we can almost say that top SG-1 delegators are way more active and also more worthy than top GAME delegators. in other words, we can kinda say that there are more "Whales" activity on SG-1 validator than GAME.

Governance Participation of SG-1 & Game Validators

Based on the left chart, SG-1 validator has participated in more Proposals than GAME and also voted more than GAME.

Also, we can see that GAME has voted twice on proposal #82 while SG-1 has voted once in all proposals.

And on the left chart, we can see the vote option of each validator on each proposal_id.

As we see, both validators have mostly voted “YES” on proposals but the share of YES votes by SG-1 validator is more than the share of YES votes by GAME.

    Summary and Conclusion

    • According to the above analysis:
    • SG-1 is more popular and also more worthy than GAME in all terms of volume and number of actions.
    • The number and volume of ReDelegates FROM these validators was more than ReDelegates TO these validators, especially during the recent weeks.
    • The total Delegate Activity (in terms of volume and number and users) on both validators has kinda decreased compared to their highest peak days (early 2022), especially in terms of the average volume of Delegations.
    • The number and volume of ReDelegates TO these validators have decreased over time, especially in terms of volume.
    • But the number and volume of ReDelegates FROM these validators has kinda increased over time, especially from SG-1.
    • GAME was performing kinda better than SG-1 during December - January 2022 but after a while, SG-1 has totally overtaken GAME in all terms.
    • an Average GAME delegator is more active and also more worthy than SG-1 but the activity and volume of the top 10 SG-1 delegators are way more than GAME and we can say there is more “Whale” activity on SG-1.
    • SG-1 has more participation in Cosmos governance since this validator has cast more votes and also participated in more proposals.
    • both validators mainly voted “YES” in their participated proposals.
    • SG-1 did not vot twice (with 2 different options) on a proposal while GAME has changed its vote on proposal #82.
