NEAR Gas Guzzlers

What contracts are users spending the most gas on to use? How has this changed over the past week? Past month?

    Introduction

NEAR is a layer 1 blockchain that uses Nightshade technology to achieve scalability. The platform was launched in 2020 as a decentralized cloud infrastructure for hosting DApps.

On the NEAR blockchain, using the Rainbow bridge and a layer 2 solution called Aurora, you can transfer your tokens between different chains. Due to higher throughput and lower transaction gas, users can connect ERC-20 tokens and assets from the Ethereum blockchain to the NEAR protocol network and benefit from this platform easily.

NEAR is the native token of the NEAR protocol, which is used to pay transaction fees and store data.

The total amount of gas that users spent last week for using contracts was equal to 6.46 million. The graph on the right shows this variable weekly. Also, in this chart, the total amount of activity on the contracts is shown. The blue bars show the amount of gas consumed and the red bars (I don't know the exact color :) ) show the number of activities, and the green line shows the cumulative sum of gas. On July 19, although the number of activities did not decrease much compared to the previous day, the amount of gas consumed decreased by about 30%.

The amount of gas consumed in the last month decreased from 2.18 million to 1.84 million, then it reached 2.95 million by June 9. Since this date, we have seen a significant decrease in gas consumption, so that it has decreased by 77%.

If we compare the amount of gas consumed and the number of activities on contracts, it seems that since July 9, the amount of gas consumed for each transaction (activity) has decreased significantly, which can be a very good thing for users.

During this month, a total of 31.5 million gas was consumed.

    Conclusion

In general, it can be said that since June 9, the gas consumption of the contracts has decreased, and during the last week, 6.46 million gas was consumed and 31.5 million gas was consumed for the last month.

The most gas consumption during the last week and last month is related to Aurora.

    Analysis

In this analysis, using Table near.core.fact_transaction, we obtain the data related to the gas used on each contract for the last week and month. It is worth noting that we must consider the condition of successful transactions for querying, which is applied using the following code:

    substr(tx:"outcome":"outcome":"status",3,7) = 'Success'

Therefore, we discuss the following charts and results:

    • Total Gas Used on Contracts in Past Week (17 to 23 July)
    • Total Gas Used Vs Activity on Contracts for Past Week
    • Total Gas Used on Contracts in Past Month (June)
    • Total Gas Used Vs Activity on Contracts for Past Month
    • Top 10 Contracts with the most Gas Used in Past Week
    • Top 10 Contracts with the most Gas Used in Past Month
    • Daily Percent of Gas Used on Top 10 Contracts in Past Week
    • Daily Percent of Gas Used on Top 10 Contracts in Past Month
    • Contracts that have Comsumed the most Gas per Day in 2022

The highest amount of gas consumed in the last week is related to Aurora platform. This platform accounts for 85.7% of gas consumption. As mentioned above, this platform is related to cross-chains transactions.app.nearcrowd.near ranks second with 7.09% and zomland.near ranks third.

In the last month, Aurora accounted for the largest amount of gas consumption, this amount is 81.9 percent of the total gas consumption. The second rank also remains the same and is related toapp.nearcrowd.near. But the third and fourth rank have changed and are related to usn and client.bridge.near, respectively.

The graph on the right shows the most consuming contract in terms of gas in 2022 on a daily basis. As it is known, Aurora has been ranked first on most days, although Contract v2.nearapps.near from March 13 to March 21 and Contract nft.nearapps.near on June 11 have the most gas consumption.

In the last month, on most days, the most gas consumption was related to the Aurora platform. Since June 11, Aurora’s share has gradually decreased, and contracts such as app.nearcrowd.near, usn and client.bridge.near have increased. In the last 4 days of the month, the share of x.paras.near has grown significantly.

In all the days of the last week, the largest amount of gas consumed was related to the Aurora platform, with the difference that its share of the total gas consumption reached below 80% on the two weekend days, and contracts such as app.nearcrowd.near and zoomland.near made Aurora’s share to about 50% percent of the total gas consumption.
