Wormhole Protocol's W Launch

The Wormhole protocol's latest initiative, W, marks a significant stride towards decentralization by launching an airdrop to distribute its 10 billion token supply, starting with an initial 1.8 billion SPL tokens on Solana. Aimed at ensuring the long-term success and progressive decentralization of the protocol, 82% of W's supply is initially locked, gradually unlocking over four years across several key stakeholders including Guardian Nodes, Community & Launch, Core Contributors, Ecosystem & Incubation, Strategic Network Participants, and the Foundation Treasury.

Initially debuting as a Solana SPL token, W plans to expand its utility with ERC20 functionality through Native Token Transfers for seamless cross-network transfers. The airdrop, distributing 6.75% of W's supply to over 400,000 wallets, rewards users for on-chain activities across the Wormhole network and community engagement, involving various communities and the top Pyth stakers, underlining Wormhole's commitment to its community and the broader goal of decentralization.
