    ๐Ÿ“ Introduction

The discussion of scalability in layer1 networks and especially Ethereum has been discussed since the emergence of blockchains. Among the scaling solutions, roll-ups have a special place.

Roll-ups are divided into two categories: Optimistic and Zero-Knowledge. The zkSync solution is one of two important proof-of-concept rollups that are active in making the Ethereum network more scalable.

zkSync is a trustless protocol for low-cost and scalable transactions on the Ethereum network that uses zero-knowledge rollup technology. The Ethereum network is a monolithic network because consensus operations, execution and data access are performed on one network and all nodes are responsible for these tasks simultaneously. To improve scalability, Ethereum is moving towards modularization, and part of its tasks will be delegated to rollups. This protocol ensures the security of users' inventory by providing redundant evidence of knowledge and storing it along with transaction data on layer1. So that if a user transfers currency to this layer and returns a year later, and during this time all the validators of this network are down, there will still be a way for him to return his capital to layer one.

    โœ๐Ÿป Methodology

In this dashboard, flipsidecrypto database is used to extract all the data. The tables that were called are:

    • ethereum.core.ez_eth_transfers โ†’ This table is used to obtain information about the volume of ETH transferred to the zkSync network and the number of users transferring their assets to the zkSync network.

    • ethereum.core.fact_transactions โ†’ This table is used to calculate the amount of fees paid by users who transfer their ETH to zkSync.

    • All information is from June 2020 onwards.

    • Contract related to zkSync:

      • 0xabea9132b05a70803a4e85094fd0e1800777fbef

    ๐Ÿ“ƒ Purposes of dashboard

In this dashboard, the activity of users who transfer their ETH to layer 2 using zkSync is evaluated. The metrics that are reviewed in this dashboard are:

โœ… Amount of ETH Transferred to zkSync

โœ… Number of Users Transferring ETH to zkSync

โœ… Transaction Fees for Transferring ETH to zkSync

โœ… Top 10 Users Based on ETH Transfer Volume/count

โœ… Distribution of the ETH Transfer Count According to the Users Count

โœ… Classification of Users Based on the Amount of ETH Transferred to zkSync

โœ… Distribution of the ETH Transfer Count According to the Users Count

โœ… Top 10 Transactions with the Largest Amount of ETH Transferred to zkSync

    All results are updated daily

    ๐Ÿ’ก Conclusion

In this dashboard, the activity of users who transfer their ETH from layer 1 to layer 2 using zkSync was analyzed.

The results show that the amount of ETH transferred to zkSync in 2022 was much higher than in 2021, although the amount of ETH sent to the network has decreased in the last few months. On average, 260 ETH are sent by users to zkSync per day.

    ๐Ÿ‘€ Observation (Overview)

    • The highest amount of ETH transferred to the zkSync network is related to March 2021. In this month, about 23.6k ETH has been transferred from layer 1 to zkSync. Meanwhile, in December 2021, the largest number of users transferred their ETHs to zkSync. (The highest volume of ETH in USD this month moved from Layer 1 to zkSync.)

    • In December 2020 and January 2021 a significant amount of ETH was transferred to zkSync. But from February 2021 to October 2021, the amount of Ethereum transferred by users has decreased. Finally again from November 2021 to June 2022 a significant amount of ETH was transferred to zkSync.

    • The highest fee paid by users to transfer ETH to zkSync is related to November 2021.

    ๐Ÿ‘€ Observation (Users activity)

    • The address '0xac54b0f52f314f1efbef245a5416fd5d7e381b71' transferred the most amount of ETH to zkSync. (40.85k ETH)
    • The address '0x1dba87ea08ca1783903b713a4a032f2e44507fa8' has transferred its ETHs to zkSync the most times. (157 times)
    • About 296k distinct addresses have transferred their ETHs to zkSync just once.
    • About 74% of the total number of users (269k) have transferred less than 0.1 ETH to zkSync. Meanwhile, 71 addresses have transferred more than 100 ETH to this L2-network.
    • The highest amount of ETH transferred to zkSync in one transaction was done by the address โ€˜0xac54b0f52f314f1efbef245a5416fd5d7e381b71โ€™โ€™. (This address transferred 5,340 ETH to zkSync in one transaction.)
    • Users have paid around 17ETH fee for unsuccessful ETH transfer to zkSync.
