Osmosis - Swap Fees

Do fees on Osmosis differ when users swap to or from different tokens? On average, which tokens have the highest and lowest swap fees on Osmosis?

    Outline

For this question, we are taking a look at the the swap fees on the Osmosis platform. Particularly, we want to know whether the source and the destination of a swap influences the transaction's fee.

Average Fee of Swapping FROM Specific Tokens

The following figure shows the average fee that has been paid in uosmosis to swap from each of these tokens. We can see that Dai, the stablecoin, had the higher cost of swapping from in the Osmosis platform. The second place belongs to USDC, yet another stablecoin, and amazingly the third place also belongs to an stablecoin, the UST.

There are three take-aways from this plot:

    1. The average prices of swapping is different for each token.
    2. Stablecoins are the top 3 most pricey tokens to swap from.
    3. Most of the tokens has almost the same swap fees.

Average Fee of Swapping TO Specific Tokens

The following figure shows that the highest swap fee to a destination token, same as the previous section, belongs to the Dai stablecoin. The second and the third place belongs to USDC and Microtick.

Our takeaways from this plot are:

    1. The average swap prices are different depending on the destination tokens.
    2. Then again, the stablecoins are among the highest gas guzzlers of swapping from specific tokens.
    3. Most tokens have almost the same swap fees.

For the final step, we take a look at the maximum and the minimum average swap fees of destination tokens. Again, LUM and Dai have the lowest and the highest average swap fees.

Another interesting thing is that the fees of swaps are almost the same for any particular token, no matter whether it is a source or destination token.

    Conclusions

    • The average swap fees are different for each token.
    • Stablecoins are among the higher priced swappable tokens.
    • Though the swap fees are different from token to token, they are almost the same for any token no matter which side of the swap they are on.
