[Polygon] Daily Transactions and Unique Addresses

Daily Number of Transactions vs. Number of Unique Users

The following figure shows the number of daily transactions vs. the daily number of unique users in the Polygon network.

    Our observations:

    • Both of these statistics have rise and fall together since July 1, 2022. with minor deviations.
    • On July 6, though the number of transactions decreased, the number of unique users performing them stayed almost the same. This can mean those who performed more transactions previously (aka active users) executed less transactions and new users with fewer transactions were more active on that day.
    • We are creating this report on July 9, 2022 and the full data on this day is not available as of writing this report. That is why both of this statistics are low on this day. But we can see that they conform to the same pattern of falling together.

    Outline

In this report, we are taking a look at the Polygon network’s performance since July 1, 2022. In particular, we are interested in the number of transaction and the number of unique users that performed those transactions. We know that during this period, the whole market experienced a side trend. Meaning the prices did not change in a great manner, so our initial view is that we should see a side/plateaued trend in Polygon network too.

    Notes:

    1. To count the number of unique users, we counted the users the executed a transaction since July 1, 2022 (from_address).
    2. To analyze the performance of the Polygon network as a whole, we think that the data with a daily resolution and for 9 days, is not informative. Hence, we used hourly data since June 1, 2022.

Hourly Statistics and Polygon Network’s Condition as a Whole

We needed higher resolution to discuss the Polygon network’s condition. That is why we used hourly data from June 1, 2022. The following plot shows the number of transactions and the number of unique users with an hourly resolution since June 1.

    Our observations:

    • The number of transactions on Polygon network was very volatile during the analysis period. E.g. on June 10, both the number of transaction and the number of unique users fell strongly. This can happen in two ways, either the network was down during that period, or a strong news hit the market. Or on June 14, the number of transactions hit an all time high.
    • From June 19 to June 22, the Polygon networks statistics were highly volatile, so much that both of the metrics we are using experienced a wide range of fluctuations during this period.
    • Same as the previous section, we can see that these two statistics, rise and fall together.
    • Though both of these statistics were very volatile during the past 40 days, and had strong spikes from time to time, we think that the general trend of the network usage plateaued since July 26, 2022.

    Conclusions

    • We have analyzed two statistics, namely the number of transactions and the number of unique users, from the Polygon network to analyze the whole networks performance since July 1, 2022.
    • The number of transaction and the unique users rise and fall with almost the same patterns.
    • We have found that the network performance plateaued since July 26, 2022.
