Popular Contracts on Flow
Analyzing the popularity of top contracts on the Flow blockchain
Outline
For this question, we are looking at the top 10 most used contracts on the Flow blockchain. Flow is a blockchain that was developed by the Dapper Labs, and was intended to ease the way of digital asset holding in apps and games.
Until now, games and social media platforms/influencers are among the most prominent users of Flow.
Part 2: Explain the Most Popular Contracts
Now we get into why each of the top 10 most popular contracts are such.
-
FlowToken: FlowToken is a contract that is responsible for depositing and withdrawing FLOW tokens. It is required for any transaction that involves sending or receiving FLOW token. So, it it logical that this contract is the most used one by a far margin.
-
FlowFees: The contract that is used when a transaction requires a network fee. Obviously, we expect this contracts to be used for many transactions.
-
flow: The flow contract is used for managerial actions, such as account creation, contract adding/removing and contract updating. Since this is a low level contract, we expect to see it often.
-
TopShop: TopShot is platform that lets users own the NFT to NBA players game shots. It is based on the Flow blockchain. This contract includes events such as moment minting and play added to set. These sort of NFT platforms usually spike when a huge publicity forms around it.
-
LNVCT (Live Nation Virtual Commemorative Tickets): LNVCT are commemorative tickets are issued along with selected concert tickets, free of charge. These ticket are minted when a person buys selected concert tickets from Live Nation or Ticketmaster. These two ticket sellers are among big players of the market and was able to mint a large amount of commemorative NFTs.
-
DapperUtilityCoin: From reading the transaction on FlowScan, it seems as if DapperUtilityCoin is a middle-ware type tools (a utility) used when transferring tokens.
-
FLOAT: FLOAT is an NFT that shows the proof of attendance to an event. It is built by Emerald City DAO. FLOAT can be used to mint a proof of attendance in any events, whether in Twitter, Discord or a YouTube stream. It gained more attention as organizers look for ways to absorb more crowd into their events.
-
TopShotMarketV3: The updated version of TopShot contract. It fixed some issues of V1 and is the current version of the TopShot contract. But basically does the same thing.
-
TokenForwarding: As the name suggests, this contract is responsible for forwarding tokens in Flow blockchain. This is a useful contract when sending NFTs on any platform.
-
CricketMoments: This contracts is the same as TopShot, but for Cricket games. It lets users own NFTs of cricket games. As with other NFT platforms on the Flow blockchain, this contract also gained interest, as the NFT absorbed more attention, specially in the Flow blockchain which was designed for games and digital assets holding.
Part 3: Trending Contracts
The following plot shows the trend of contract usage per day.
Observations:
- There is no dominant trend for any of the contracts.
- We can see that flow and FlowToken both peaked at May 15.
- FlowFees is one of the more stable contracts, meaning since it is necessary for many contracts, it is almost consistently being used (but it still has a fair amount of fluctuation that we cannot say it has a trend).
- TopShot peaked at May 21.
- The rest of the contracts did not show any interesting behavior.
