Introduction

Metamask is a free web/mobile crypto wallet that allows users to store and swap cryptocurrencies, and interact with the Ethereum blockchain, which hosts a growing array of decentralized applications. This wallet can support several blockchains such as Polygon, Tomochain, Avalanche, Optimism, Arbitrum and etc. It is one of the most widely used crypto applications in the world.

This article tries to find all Metamask users using its swap smart contract : "0x881d40237659c251811cec9c364ef91dc08d300c". For this purpose first, we should extract all wallets that have had at least one transaction with this smart contract. Then by using the Ethereum balance table, we can recognize all wallets that have held Eth and the amount of balances.

The following table shows all Metamask users. This table tells us more than 1.27 M distinct users use this wallet in their transactions.

After finding all Metamask users based on the swap smart contract, all wallets holding Eth are shown in the following table. According to this table, more than 1.16M distinct wallets held Eth.

But the other question is how much Eth do these wallets have? The following table shows a clear number of the average amount of Eth held in these wallets. As you can see, the average Eth in these wallets is approximately 2.425

Metamask users' higher activity

The purpose of the last part of this article is to know whether, in addition to swapping, transferring, and storing cryptocurrencies in this wallet, Metamask users also perform other activities.

These activities can include the following:

1- staking

2- Voting

3- Buy NFT

4- Mint NFT

5- Burning tokens and …

In this article, the first option i.e. the wallets that have been staking, has been considered. According to the table below, out of 1270000 Metamask users, only 14705 wallets have been staking on different platforms. The table below shows that 14705 users are almost less than 2% of the total Metamask users.

The next pie chart shows the top 10 Metamask wallet holding Eth. The highest amount of Eth is held by Metamask user with the address : 0xa8e802312b67bb81af0bd250694975f79b1cbe54 holding about 20k tokens in it. You can see all these wallets in the next table.

The following bar chart illustrates the average Eth held in Metamask wallets on a daily basis. we can three waves in this chart showing three peaks over this period of time since January first. 31 March saw a peak of 2.86 and after that, it has decreased gradually.

Conclusion

In this article, all Metamask users were identified based on the swap Smart Connect of Metamask. It was also found that almost 90% of these wallets (1.16 million) have held Ethereum tokens. In addition, an average of 2.425 Eth per wallet are held in these wallets. Finally, it was found that less than two percent of all Metamask wallets on staking platforms were staked.
