    What is Osmosis (brief intro)

Osmosis is a multi-chain DEX specifically built to function with other blockchains in the Cosmos ecosystem. Communication with these other blockchains is achieved via its Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol (IBC). Because Osmosis is linked to other Tendermint blockchains, providing smooth, fast trades.

    What is IBC? (brief intro)

The Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol allows different blockchain networks to communicate. IBC was the final part in the development of the three major components of the Cosmos technology to be released. The other two components being the Tendermint Core and the Cosmos SDK (software development kit).

IBC transfers to Osmosis breakdown by chain

New swappers on Osmosis breakdown by chain

Osmosis’s new and total users and their first action after joining to Osmosis

Osmosis new liquidity providers and their first deposited pool

    Summary and conclusions

According the charts above IBC transfers to Osmosis we can see ATOM and EVMOS are the most popular chains that users are sending assets to Osmosis from, indicating that these chains are well-represented among Osmosis users and are popular sources of liquidity for the platform. However, the number of transfers from ATOM to Osmosis has been declining over time, though the reason for this decline is unclear. A portion of all transfers to Osmosis are from ATOM and EVMOS, but there is also a diverse mix of assets being transferred to the platform.

According to charts about Osmosis swappers and their first swapped token on Osmosis we can see among users who are new to swapping on Osmosis, 50.2% choose to swap for OSMO. However, the percentage of users swapping for OSMO in their first trade on Osmosis has been steadily declining over time. In terms of liquidity provision, 74.2% of all first liquidity actions on Osmosis are users depositing into the ATOM/OSMO pool, making it the most popular liquidity pool on the platform, particularly among new liquidity providers. These findings suggest that while OSMO is a popular choice among new users for swapping, its popularity has been declining over time, and the ATOM/OSMO pool is the most popular liquidity pool on Osmosis.

According to the charts about Osmosis new users and their first action after joining Osmosis we can see Swapping is the most popular activity Over 60% of all new users on Osmosis choose to swap as their first activity on the platform (both total and First action) among users who have entered the Osmosis ecosystem. The second rank of most popular action belong to the Transferring Assets out of Osmosis ecosystem and the 3rd rank belong to the Liquidity Providing (LP) actions. we can see staking $OSMO is the next popular action of new users after entering the Osmosis ecosystem and a low share of actions belong to the Governance-related ones and also inner-transferring assets within the Osmosis ecosystem.

So, we can conclude that Swap activity on Osmosis is an high-popular action to the extent that users immediately perform this action when they recently entered the Osmosis ecosystem.
