Introduction
NFT Royalty fees are loved by creators and hated by traders - after all, who likes to say goodbye to a part of their freshly acquired money? But how do these fees come about in the first place?
Creators can fix a royalty fee in the smart contract during the minting of any NFT. Usually, the royalties vary from 5% to 10%, and the amount is automatically sent to the artist’s wallet once a subsequent sale is executed. This dashboard will compare some of the most popular NFT Platforms on Ethereum, namely OpenSea, LooksRare, Rarible and x2y2.
Methodology
The following aspects will be covered in this dashboard:
- The total Creator Fees collected on each platform.
- The NFT sales transactions on each platform.
- The NFT unique sellers on each platform.
- The NFT sales volume (in $) on each platform.
- The number of distinct NFT projects on each platform.
- Which NFT projects have generated the most creator fees and on which platforms?
- The next step will be to look at the above metrics on a monthly basis.

Key insights:
- It is very clear that OpenSea is the winner by far, when it comes to all of the metrics presented above. It is the platform that has generated the most creator fees, the biggest number of NFT sales and has the biggest number of distinct NFT projects available.
- It is also interesting to notice that LooksRare comes second when it comes to all of these metrics, however, the difference between OpenSea and LooksRare is very visible.
- After looking at these metrics, it is certainly reasonable to conclude that the king of NFT royalties is OpenSea!

The Top 10 NFT projects which have contributed to the biggest amount of creator fees collected can be all found on OpenSea, which is shown by the bottom pie chart on the left. Going back to the top of the dashboard where the total values are shown, we can see that OpenSea collected over $1.7B of creator fees - here we can see that over $650M of creator fees have been generated by the top 10 projects!
However, we also have to keep in mind that a big proportion of collector fees does not have an assigned project to it, which translates to the biggest part of the pie chart being ‘null’. However, we can still clearly see just how much OpenSea dominates the other NFT projects, especially when it comes to the Royalties!
Conclusion
This dashboard has investigated some of the key metrics for NFT platforms. We have investigated which platform is the king of NTF royalties, and the conclusion was pretty easy to make from the clear numbers - it is OpenSea. We also looked at other important metrics, such as sales transactions, unique seller count, sales volume, and the count of distinct NFT projects - for all 4 NFT platforms.
