Gitcoin GR15
GR15 insights, and how to improve future grants.
Abstract
Gitcoin grants is an initiative that enables creators of public goods to get funding. The initiative leverages quadratic funding (QF), a technology which matches donations from a matching pool to projects based on the number of contributors. The 15th iteration of the grants program was dubbed Grants Round (GR) 15, and it run from September 7, to September 22, 2022. Donors are entities that give out funds in the form of crypto tokens. Grants are open-source projects that receive funds given out by donors. This dashboard visualized GR15 funding data for all supported chains (Ethereum mainnet, and Polygon), excluding zkSync. A total of $414,400 worth of Ether, USDC, MATIC, and DAI was donated in a span of 15 days.
Over 22,000 unique Ethereum wallets donated to grants participating in GR15. The number of donors, and the count of donations increased in a zig-zag pattern until peak on September 22, 2022 with 4,192 unique wallets.
Of the 15 days of GR15, about 8,8400 unique wallets used the Polygon network to donate to grants. The number of unique donors peaked on the 7th day at 1073 with a more noticeable zig-zag pattern.
On Ethereum mainnet, $ETH donations make up 99% of all donations with the remaining 1% comprising solely of $USDC, and $DAI. About $375,000 worth of tokens were collected in all with an average of $15.65 per donor.
On the Polygon network, 100% of transactions are $MATIC totaling up to about $57,400 with an average donor amount of $6.5. At this point, we can infer that majority of GR15 donors preferred to use Ethereum mainnet over its Polygon counterpart with relatively lower fees.
