What is Cryptopunks ?
CryptoPunks are 10,000 unique collectible characters with proof of ownership stored on the Ethereum blockchain. No two are exactly alike, and each one of them can be officially owned by a single person on the Ethereum blockchain.
The CryptoPunks are 24x24 pixel art images, generated algorithmically. Most are punky-looking guys and girls, but there are a few rarer types mixed in: Apes, Zombies and even the odd Alien. Every punk has their own profile page that shows their attributes as well as their ownership/for-sale status.
As you may be aware, purchasing art in the form of an NFT entitles you to be the only owner, with all prior owners documented in the blockchain. Because of its one-of-a-kindness, CryptoPunks is a good choice for investors who believe in the NFT market. In general, the value of an NFT will only rise when public perception and popularity rise. However, by the same token, an NFT’s value might collapse dramatically at any time, thus these investments can either be very profitable or a means to lose a lot of money. However, the value of CryptoPunks has increased tremendously thus far. When CryptoPunks were first introduced in 2017, they were priced between $1 and $34 apiece. However, a single CryptoPunk can now cost millions of dollars.
The fact that CryptoPunks is one of the earliest NFT initiatives and the first set of randomly generated profile photos to genuinely connect with the crypto community is one of the main sources of demand. - Gain percentage is slightly higher among all time TOP 10 Profitable Traders. With generally over 200% gain.
- Surprisingly, most of them don’t have high buy or sell transactions rate.
- Most of them only trade below 100 times.
- However, this is reasonable as the Cryptopunks pricing is high. The turnover rate will be risky to the traders as the trading rate gets higher.
- I can see that they’ll choose to stop trading and enjoy their gain when reaching certain cap.
Methodology
This dashboard only consider secondary sales of Cryptopunks. While the charts below showing only the data since 2022-01-01. While the secondary sales are obtained from ethereum.core.ez_nft_sales flipside crypto. While I filter the sales for Cryptopunks using project_name LIKE 'cryptopunks' and event_type = 'sale'. Meanwhile to prevent the minting transactions mixing up with the secondary sales I have excluded the minting address where seller_address NOT IN ('0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000') .

- While on daily average the sales volume has maintaining around 200k to 500k USD.
- As we compared with the price chart, the daily sales volume fluctuation is mainly due to the price of Cryptopunks NFT.
Price (AVG, MED, MAX, MAX)
- Basically, each Cryptopunks on Secondary sales on Year 2022. The pricing is around 100k to 150k.
- While trace back Feb 12 2022, the daily volume surged as one of the Cryptopunks sold for 23 Million USD.
- Overall, we dont see any devaluation of Cryptopunks. The value maintain at a healthy level in Year 2022.
