Node Churning Events
In the THORChain ecosystem, a "churn" happens when one node goes from "Active" -> "Standby" or "Disabled" and another goes from "Ready" -> "Active". Show the cadence of node churning events over time.
Daily Churns
The chart above is showing the daily amount of churning events happened on Thorchain.
-
First two months of MCCN launched, there are mostly 5 churns per day, on the highest day, there are 18 churns per day.
-
There are a halt of network since end of July 2021 to September 2021. Hence, no churning events happened on the period of time.
-
Then coming to January 2022, on average there are 8 to 10 churns per day.
-
The highest amount of churns happened a day is 20.

Churning Out
On every churn, the network several nodes to be churned out of the network which usually will be back in the network again. Multiple nodes may be selected for a churn out event in a single churning event but never more than 1/3rd of the current validator set. The criterion the network will take into account is the following:
- Requests to leave the network (self-removal)
2.Banned by other nodes (network-removal)
-
How long an active nodes has been committing blocks (oldest gets removed)
-
Bad behavior (accrued slash points for poor node operation)
Churning In
Same as churn out event, churning in may select one or more nodes to be churned into the network but never adds more than one to the total. Which nodes that are selected are purely by validator bond size. Larger bond nodes are selected over lower bond nodes.
