Introduction

What is Tornado.Cash?

Tornado.Cash is a fully decentralized, non-custodial protocol that improves transaction privacy by breaking the on-chain link between the sender and recipients’ addresses. To improve privacy, Tornado.Cash uses a smart contract that accepts ETH and other tokens from one address and allows them to withdraw to a different address.

Method

• I got Tornado addresses from ethereum.core.dim_labels table with filter label like '%tornado%' . Then I joined the obtained addresses with the ethereum.core.fact_transactions table and got the number of transactions and the volume of ETH moved in each transaction last month, quarter, year.
• I categorized the number of transactions based on the amount of ETH in the transactions according to the condition below:
  •  0.01-0.1 ETH
  • 0.1-1ETH
  • 1-10ETH
  • 10-100 ETH
  • Above 100 ETH

Tornado.cash:router has the largest volume of transactions.

• Last month=> 106.7k ETH
• Last quarter=> 287.8k ETH
• Last year=> 921k ETH

Total number of transactions last month, quarter, year

Tornado.cash:router has the largest number of transactions.

• Last month=> 17.3k transactions
• Last quarter=> 32.4k transactions
• Last year=> 89.8k transactions

Total number of transactions based on amount ETH since 2022-1-1

Total number of transactions based on ETH amount since 2022-1-1 respectively:

• 1-10ETH => 36.4%, 22.1k transactions
• 10-100 ETH => 27.2%, 16.5k transactions
• 0.1-1ETH => 18.5%, 11.3k transactions
• Over 100 ETH => 15.5%, 9.4k transactions
• 0.01-0.1 ETH => 2.3%, 1.4k transactions

The maximum number of transactions in Tornado addresses can be divided into 3 time periods:

• From February 8 to March 30, 2021 => tornado.cash:torn token
