Notes on method

To compute the age of synth assets the following conditions have been considered:

> ON a.wallet = b.wallet AND a.synth_asset = b.synth_asset AND a.rank +1 = b.rank AND a.label = 'mint' AND b.label = 'burn'

In fact, the age has been measured by computing the difference -in day- between minting and burning an asset - regardless of the amount- by a wallet.

Introduction

The number of days that stakers hold their staked assets or the synth holders hold their synthetic assets is an important factor to assess the success of projects.

This dashboard quantifies and visualizes the distribution and average of synthetic assets' age on THORChain.

Analysis

The graph below shows the distribution of age of each minting. In other words, it shows the distribution of the difference between minting and burning of a synth asset.

As can be seen, the vast majority of synth assets are burnt the same day of their minting.

The average synth asset age is shown in the box below (at the time of writing is about three hours).

The graph below shows the distribution of average age of synth holders per wallet. In other words, the graph shows the distribution of the average period of time a wallet hold a synth asset.

We can see that almost half of wallets (52%) hold synth assets on average less than a day.

Summary of findings

The data shows that most of those who mint synth assets are not holders of synth assets. They mostly make profit with mint-burn mechanism.

The further analysis should distinguish between arbitrage-bots and ordinary wallets.
