Near is a L1 blockchain aiming at providing the ideal environment for dAPPs by overcoming some of the limitations of competing systems—such as low throughput, low speeds, and poor cross-compatibility.

To grow the blockchain and expand the ecosystem the NEAR Foundation supports projects. These supports are aligned with the goal that has been stated in the NEAR Funding strategy:

    > We’ve outlined the Foundation’s new strategy around facilitating Web2.5 and making NEAR the de facto bridge from Web2 to Web3.

This dashboard attempts to provide a data-driven suggestions for new strategy of funding by answering the following question: In making NEAR the de facto bridge from Web2 to Web3 which domains should be prioritized for funding: Infrastructure, DeFi or NFT?

    Performance

As the scatter plot next to this box shows, NEAR can be categorized as average success rate and low TPS.

We can conclude that in allocating funds some attentions should be paid in improving infrastructure itself to improve success rate and being ready for higher number of transactions per second.

    DeFi

The scatter plot shows that NEAR is has the highest number of swappers in comparison with Terra and Thorchain but still it has a long way to reach the level of Osmosis and Solana.

It is obvious that a part of supports should be allocated to Defi projects in 2023.

    NFT

The scatter plot shows that NEAR has a low volume of NFT sales and average number of NFT sales.

Some attempts should be done to increase the popularity of NFT sector among NEAR users.

NEAR funding should be in a way that motivate developers to be involved in NFT projects.

    Summary

This dashboard has been created to provide data-driven suggestions for new funding strategy by analyzing the performance and activities of NEAR in 2022 with a comparative perspective to other blockchains.

The analysis suggests that in allocating funds, attention should be paid to improving the infrastructure to improve success rate and being ready for higher number of transactions per second, supporting DeFi projects and increasing the popularity of NFT sector among NEAR users.

Graphs below show how NEAR’s transactions success rate and speed has changed over time and how is situated within the field.

We can see that success rate has fluctuated between 70% and 90% last year. The daily average is just above 80%. The performance of NEAR in terms of Success Rate can be considered as at average level and needs improvement. We can see that other stable chains have success rate more than 90%.

In terms of speed, NEAR is not also among the fastest chains. This can be due to the low number of daily transactions which does not show the highest capacity of the chain.

    Method

In this dashboard we presents the performance and activities of NEAR in 2022 with a comparative perspective.

A number of Layer 1 and Layer 2 blockchains has been selected. The metrics over time and in daily average will be depicted and compared. By doing this we will see in what domains the NEAR chain requires more attentions and supports.

Infrastructure is represented by performance metrics, Defi by Swap activities and NFT by Sales.

Decentralized Finance (DeFi) is instrumental to chains.

Graphs below shows how the number of swaps and swappers have been changed in 2022. We can see that among the selected chains NEAR attracted not a high volume of Swap activities.

Also we can see a downward trend started from May 2022 in the number of swappers.

NFTs pulls users towards a chain. As the data shows NEAR does not have a growing NFT sector. In comparison to the other chains NEAR is among the average level of NFT sales.
