    Overview

Polygon, formerly known as the Matic Network, is a scaling solution that aims at providing an Ethereum alternative with a fast and low fee transactions. Fast transactions with a relatively low fee are guaranteed by the effective and precise block performance of the polygon blockchain.

This dashboard provides an overview of the performance Polygon in comparison with some other important chains built on L1 and L2.

    Method and Data

Two main factors of performance is presented:

    • block time is defined is the time difference between two blocks.
    • block size is defined as the number of transaction in a block.

Flipside’s on-chain has been used for this dashboard.

    Block Time

Table below shows how average daily block time has changed over time. We can see from data the that block time has increased since the beginning of June.

The shortest block time is 2 seconds and the longest block time is 25 seconds.

The average block time in different time periods can be seen in the box below by applying parameters on top of this dashboard.

    Average transaction per block

In terms of the average transaction per block Polygon works better L2 blockchains, while does not work better than BSC, Ethereum and Solana.

    Block Time Comparison

Average block time in different time span can be found in graph below and next to this box.

We can see that Polygon works better than Ethereum and BSC. However, L2 blockchains such as Arbitrum and Optimism as well as some L1 blockchains such as Solana, Near and Avalanche outperform Polygon.
