How does the real-world impact blockchain activities?
This dashboard attempts to shed some lights into question by investigating the impact of the World Cup on user activities on the Ethereum blockchain.
First, changes in user activities before, during and after the 2018 Russia Fifa World Cup will be presented. Then, in the light of 2018 WC impact and considering changes in the first week we will try to predict the rest of the 2022 Qatar World Cup Impact on the Ethereum blockchain activities.

Contrary to NFT mints, NFT sales did not increase during the Russian World Cup as the data shows.

World Cups last about one month. For investigating the World Cup impact one month before and after the event is compared with its time.
The 2018 Russia World cup held between '2018-06-14' and '2018-7-15'
and the 2022 Qatar World Cup started on 2022-11-20
and will be ended on 2022-12-18
. Therefore the following periods are considered to compare for Russia and Qatar world cup respectively:

User Activities
Graphs below show the daily number of transactions and ETH value of transactions over time. We can see that the daily number of transactions has decreased since the beginning of the world cup. Immediately, after the world cup it has increased. In the final stages the transactions level were less than the group stage.
Looking at the total number of transactions per period (31 days), we can see that during the world cup the Ethereum blockchain experienced lowest level of transactions.
The ETH value also decreased after the beginning of the 2018 WC. However, it is difficult to say that this is a part of long term decline or the effect of WC as the decrease can be seen after the WC as well.
Data around the 2018 Russian World Cup reveals that user activities, user adoption, ETH transfers and NFT mints has influenced by the World Cup.
One week after the opening of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, let’s see whether we can see the abovementioned effects on the ETH blockchain.
