[Nouns] Nouns Governance Participation
Dashboard Overview
- The dashboard will be analyzing Nouns DAO’s on-chain voting activity.
- The ultimate goal will be to assess proposal engagement, relative to the number of nouns in existence by the proposal’s end.

1. Nouns Minted Over Time
- This component is required as we need to know the exact supply at the time a proposal’s voting ends. This will keep the calculations for engagement fair and balanced with respect to the Nouns’ supply.
Notes:
-
A noun is minted once every day and auctioned off.
-
Every 10th noun is a double mint, where the other Noun is transferred to the Nouns’ treasury.
Eg: Nouns #0 & #1, #10 & #11, and so on!
Such days can be distinguished by the single/double mint tags on the chart →
-
Strangely, there have been 3 odd days since inception where there wasn’t a single mint! 🤔
2. Voting Participation Data/Outcome for each proposal
- The voting data helps figure out the total voters for a proposal, as well as the overall outcome of that proposal
Notes:
- Nouns DAO has forked Compound’s Governance design/contract.
- As such, the voting_power(votes) are determined by the Nouns held by the voter at the time of the vote as well as any Nouns delegated to the voter by other holders.
3. Proposal Engagements
-
Now that all the components are in place, we can plot the engagement percentages!
-
Engagement Percentage is defined as:
(Vote_Power_That_Voted/Nouns_Existing)*100
Notes:
- We see that the majority of proposals stick between the 10-25% engagement range.
- However, there are notable extremes/outliers under 10% and above 25%!
Before getting to the goal (proposal engagement), the dashboard first builds up the required components or the building blocks…
The building blocks are:
-
Nouns minted over time
-
Voting Participation Data/Outcome for each proposal
\
Once we have these components, we can join them together to get the finale:
- The proposal Engagement
