$OP Airdrop (Redux)
Overview
Optimism is a layer 2 scaling solution that uses Optimistic Rollups to process a large number of transactions outside the Ethereum blockchain. The project claims it can trade smart contracts five to 500 times cheaper than Ethereum layer 1. It speeds up Ethereum transactions and reduces their costs by settling them on another blockchain using advanced data compression techniques.
Optimism has announced the launch of their governance token “OP” and confirmed to airdrop 19% (5% for the first round) of the total supply to early and future Optimism users. Optimism Users, Repeat Optimism Users, DAO Voters, Multisig Signers, Gitcoin Donors, and Users Priced Out of Ethereum by the snapshot date are eligible to claim the airdrop. The snapshot of the addresses was taken on March 25th, 2022 at 0:00 UTC.
The Optimism Foundation’s Airdrop #1 rewards those who have been instrumental as early adopters and active users of projects in the Optimism ecosystem. To celebrate our Ethereum roots, The Optimism Foundation also wants to welcome active L1 participants who can help scale Ethereum’s innovations, culture, and values to Layer 2. In total, 248,699 addresses are eligible to claim OP in this initial airdrop [1].
Methods
The idea of this dashboard is to evaluate the OP airdrop done few months ago and see how the available addresses acted after a while.
The main metrics evaluated have been the following:
- OP claimers over time
- OP claimed tokens over time
- Distinct claimers by type of actions done
- Daily OP delegations over time
- Claimers vs delegators
- Daily Claimer delegator over time
Looking at the number of claimers and the total claimed tokens over time, we can see how the big activity was developed during the first days since the launch of the airdrop when the addresses were avaialble to claim the tokens.
During the first week, more than 100k users claimed their OP airdrop and more than 100M tokens were claimed.
Until now, around 150k users claimed their airdrop and more than 150M of OP have been claimed. Representing 60% of the available claiimers and almost 75% of the total OP to be airdropped.
In terms of actions, we can see at the left how the major of the users sold their tokens, while some other still holding them. Only few bought more OPs.
In terms of delegations, we can see a similar behavior than before, and the major of the activity was carry out during the first days after the airdrop launch. However, it seems that some spiked were registered over the past week in number of delegations.
Finally, in the left side we can see the evolution of the number of claimer delegators over time. Again, we can see the activity concentrated on the first days.
In total more than 110k users become claimer delegators, representing more than 73% of them.
