Introduction

In this dashboard we will be looking at user retention on Flow and compare it to other Layer 1s such as solana and ethereum

    Methodology

    1. To analyse user retention we will be looking when wallets first transacted
    2. We will then see if the wallets are still active after different lengths of time. In this dashboard we will look for activity after a week and after a month
    3. We will repeat this for other Layer 1

    BSC user retention

    Avalanche user retention

    Osmosis user retention

Note - Osmosis is not an all purpose layer 1 like the other blockchains looked at in this dashboard, however I thought it would be an interesting comparison.

User retention rankings a week after first transaction (As of 2022/07/18)

    1. Osmosis
    2. Avalanche
    3. Ethereum
    4. Solana
    5. BSC
    6. Flow

User retention rankings a month after first transaction (As of 2022/07/18)

    1. Osmosis
    2. Ethereum
    3. Solana
    4. Avalanche
    5. Flow
    6. BSC

    Conclusion

We see that Osmosis has the highest User retention rate, this could be linked to the fact that Osmosis is not an all-purpose blockchain like the rest of the layer 1s we looked at. We see that Flow was among the worst layer 1’s, if not the worst ( I believe their may be some issues with the BSC table data). We see Avalanche is second for the week data but fourth for the month data. I believe one week of activity is not significant to consider them as a consistent user, with the one month metric probably being a better measure of user retention. We see second for users active after a month is Ethereum , which in some ways is surprising due to the insane fees however Ethereum still is the hub for innovation with the most dAPPs to interact with.

Coming back to Flow I believe a possible reason for lack of user retention is the lack of a flourishing Defi ecosystem, with the main area it thrives in being NFTs which does not necessarily require active user participation
