NFL All Day Tournament Round 2

    Introduction

    The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league that consists of 32 teams, divided equally between the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). The NFL is one of the major North American professional sports leagues and the highest professional level of American football in the world.

    NFL All Day Moments are video collectibles featuring the NFL’s best and iconic highlights, each one featuring an epic play or performance from around the league. In addition to the highlight, every Moment includes a host of information and visuals regarding the game and the player involved. Each different serial number of a particular play is a unique NFT for fans to own. NFL moments are produced by Dapper Labs and released on the Flow blockchain.

    In this analysis, the sales of NFL All Day NFTs have been investigated and analyzed with a focus on players and their play types since the 2022 preseason.

    Methodology

    The sales data for this analysis were selected from the ez_nft_sales table and the metadata of the NFTs was selected from the dim_allday_metadata table of the Core schema of the Flow database. The time frame of this analysis was limited to the 2022 season and the NFT sales from the 4th of August onward were measured, according to the official NFL Schedule page. The NFTs are sold in only one marketplace and only one currency with a $1 value (DapperUtilityCoin), thus all the volume charts in this dashboard present the data in U.S dollars.

    This dashboard aimed to determine the highest value players and the play types associated with the Moment NFTs, and also analyze the correlation between these two factors. In that regard, the value was determined as the total sales volume in U.S. dollars resulting from the NFT sales of each player and player type. One might define an NFT with an expensive price tag as high value, however, due to the generally low number of sales for NFTs, and the continuous addition of NFTs associated with different players and player types to the collection, their sales volume was chosen as an indication of their provided value to the whole NFL All Day collection.

    Because there have been numerous players within the collection, only those with a total sales volume of $100K were chosen as the top players to make the charts more visually appealing. Also, the sales of NFTs with a N/A value for their player column, which was the indication of a team play moment, were excluded from the analysis, since the goal of the analysis was to determine the specific player names with the highest value provided. For the daily sales, only the top five players with the highest sales volume were selected, again to make the charts more readable.

    • Reception play type, as well as Pass and Rush, have had the highest sales volume since 2022 preseason with a total volume of nearly $6M, $3.3M, and $2.9M, respectively;

    • The sales trend has also been relatively similar to the volumes, with Rush NFTs having 1.5x higher sales compared to the ones with a Pass play type;

    • The average price for the top three play types has been moderate, indicating that their high sales volume has been the result of their high sales number;

    • On the other hand, the high sales volume of play types such as Player and Team Melt has been the result of their high prices, while having low sales numbers;

    • Interestingly, although NFTs with a Pressure play type have been the most expensive ones, overall they have not been able to generate a high sales number and volume;

    • The number of buyers and sellers has had the same trend as the sales number and volume, with the number of sellers being much higher compared to the buyers for almost all of the play types, except NFTs with a 2-Pt Attempt play type.

    • Tom BradyPatrick Mahomes II, and Russell Wilson have been the top three players with the highest sales volume since the 2022 preseason with all having a total volume of more than $300K;

    • The average price for the NFTs of Tom Brady has been incredibly high, resulting in its relatively smaller sales number;

    • The sales of other players have not had any clear trend. In general, players with a low average price NFTs have had a higher sales number, and vice versa;

    • The trend for the number of buyers and sellers has also been similar to their overall sales trend;

    • Besides Tom BradyTony BoselliMike WilliamsPatrick Mahomes IIAaron Rodgers, and Brett Favre have had a relatively high price tag for their NFTs with an average of more than $150.

    • The sales analysis of player-play type duo NFTs have demonstrated a direct correlation between the top players and the top play types with a high sales volume;

    • The combination of players with the Pass play type has exceeded the sales of Rush and Reception play types;

    • The price of each duo has been incredibly close to the average NFT price of each player, showing their higher influence compared to the play type. This seems to be logical due to the fact that play types are more general and every player fits in at least one play type, which normalizes the price;

    • In addition to that, even among the top player-play type duos with the highest sales volume, the majority of them have a Pass play type, which again emphasizes the higher impact of players on the price compared to the play types;

    • Interestingly, the share of players with a Pass play type among the most expensive NFTs has been lower compared to the other play types, especially Reception and Player Melt;

    • The NFT of Odell Beckham Jr. with a Reception play type has sold for an unbelievably high price of $50k, makes it the most expensive NFT since the 2022 preseason;

    • Also, the NFTs of various players with a Player Melt play type have been among the priciest NFTs during the measured period.

    Conclusion

    In conclusion, the analysis of NFL All Day Moment NFTs with the different player and play types since the 2022 preseason has indicated that the sales volume of these NFTs is generally correlated with their player, and since the majority of those players are only associated with one play type, the sales volume for that particular play type also increases. The only exception has been the Player Melt play type, which resulted in a relatively high sales volume, regardless of the player it was associated with. The Pass play type also experienced a high sales volume due to the fact that most of the top high tier and famous players had a moment with this play type, increasing its sales numbers. From the play types perspective, the Reception, Interception, and Rush play types have had the highest share among a wide range of players, resulting in their high sales volume. Price-wise, NFTs with a Reception or Player Melt have accounted for the most expensive moments, with only a few Pass play types among them. Last but not least, the daily analysis of NFT sales demonstrated that different sets of players registered high sales volume on different days during the measured period. After manually checking the NFL schedule and the date on which different teams played, it was concluded that the high sales volume of particular players was directly correlated with the day their team played. Considering this, it can ultimately be concluded that an outstanding performance of a player resulted in an increase in the sales of his NFTs on the day he and his team played.

    • The simultaneous NFT sales analysis of players and player types has demonstrated that while there has been a considerable number of players with two player types, the majority of them have only associated with one player type;
    • Only a few players have associated with 3 player types;
    • Player Melt has been the dominant player type as the second type for players with two types;
    • ReceptionInterception, and Rush have been the most common play types among all the players, which justifies their high sales volume;
    • Although only a few players experienced a high sales volume, a considerable number of players (roughly one-third of all) have had a high sales number since the 2022 preseason;
    • There has been a large difference between the average NFT price of each player with only a few numbers of them having expensive NFTs;
    • Overall, these charts have indicated that the price of NFTs and ultimately their sales number and volume are heavily influenced by the players and not the play type of the captured moment;
    • The only exception has been the Player Melt play type that has had a high sales volume relatively regardless of the player it is associated with.

    Daily Players Sales Analysis

    • The daily sales analysis of the top five players with the highest volumes has shown that different sets of players experienced high sales on almost all the days since the 2022 preseason;
    • Since the start of the 2022 season on September 8th, both the number and the volume of sales have increased, especially on match days;
    • While the number of sales has had the same trend as the volume since September 8th, the average prices have drastically decreased compared to the preseason;
    • The unjustified high NFT prices were during the preseason sales with only a few NFT trades. Almost all of the players with extremely high NFT prices had only less than 10 sales on one particular day, with only Tom Brady being an exception on August 20th;
    • By manually checking the NFL schedule and the days each team played during each week, it can be concluded that the high volume sales of each player are directly correlated with the day their team was playing. One can also conclude that an outstanding play of one player resulted in the sales increase of his NFTs.
