Katana wLUNA Pool
Create a chart showing the amount of Katana WLUNA Covered Call Vault Shares claimed since February 4th and the number of unique wallets that have claimed shares. What is the average size claim? Does it seem that the wLUNA vault is mainly used by "whales"?
In this dashboard
-
We will look at the number of Katana WLUNA Covered Call Vault Shares (kcWLuna) claimed per day as well as the number of unique wallets that have claimed kcWLuna per day since February 4th.
-
After that, we will examine the average size of a kcWLuna claim to see if the wLUNA vault on Katana is primarily used by 'whales'.
- The line graph above the sum of kcWLuna claimed per day and number of unique wallets claiming kwCLuna per day since February 4th.
- For the majority of the days, the sum of kcWLuna claimed and the number of unique wallets claiming kwCLuna correlate positively.
- The sum of kwCLuna claimed per day peaked on February 18th, 2022, with 497.33k kwCLuna claimed on that day. This is followed by February 4th, 2022, when 103.215k kwCLuna is claimed.
- Aside from these two days, the total amount of kwCLuna claimed per day has been less than 100k kwCLuna so far.
- The number of addresses claiming kwCLuna peaked on the two days when the sum of kwCLuna claimed was the highest, February 4th and February 18th 2022, with 9 unique wallets claiming kwCluna on those two days.
Approach
- kcWLuna Claim data is obtained using solana.events table.
- For addresses that have claimed, addresses that claimed kwCLuna can be recorded in tables in two ways: for most claim transactions, the claimant's address can be found in pretokenbalances[1]:owner, but for three transactions that are recorded differently, the claimant's address can be found in posttokenbalances[0]:owner.
- A non-typical claim transaction takes place when an address interacts with the Associated Token Account Program prior to claiming kcWLuna.
- Example of a typical claim tx = '4uxDQgdUfwuJB4dctLRoF9PnDq6mBstUZHX1k3Yg3xFhjvTt2JwfzhXrvVoUyd97YsYE66PqqvoRdSjJ1uRXqDcB' and
- Example of a non-typical claim tx = '4SJfDboDjo3Yvs6xsBddv3riJpZ7NcDGAW3gHVnDMRX7xuGhVkNz5B9X4dQVNYPmcWgX4MrWzZUF7XQH7rpUJntm'
- The average size of a kcWLuna claim is approximately 13.38k.
- During the month of February, the price of LUNA has been hovering around 50 USD per LUNA. Because the price of kwCLuna is the equivalent to the price of LUNA, we can calculate that the average claim size in USD is approximately 13.38k * 50 USD = 669K USD.
Introduction to Katana
-
Katana is a Solana yield generating protocol. It assists users in generating yield by using automated option strategies, similar to Friktion on Solana and Ribbon Finance on Ethereum.
-
On Katana, there is a WLUNA vault that accepts WLUNA deposits and earns yield using an automated WLUNA covered call strategy.

-
As though you were using a normal covered call strategy. If the strike price of WLUNA is less than the premium of the options sold at expiration, the vault obtains the whole premium and may repeat the strategy, compounding its WLUNA over time.
-
As of February 20th, 2022, the WLUNA Vault has an APY of 84.42 %.
Is the wLUNA vault on Katana primarily used by 'whales'?
- A whale is defined as someone who owns a large number of a specific cryptocurrency, and in this dashboard, a whale is someone who has made claims worth more than 100K USD.
- Based on the average claim size of approximately 669K USD, we can conclude that the wLUNA vault on Katana is primarily used by whales, as the average claim size exceeds our 100k threshold for whales.
Conclusion
- Katana is a yield generation protocol for Solana, and it has a WLUNA vault.
- The total number of kwCLuna claimed per day peaked on February 18th, 2022, with 497.33k kwCLuna claimed. This is followed by the claim of 103.215k kwCLuna on February 4th, 2022.
- Similarly, the number of addresses claiming kwCLuna peaked on the two days when the total amount of kwCLuna claimed was highest, February 4th and February 18th 2022, with 9 unique wallets claiming kwCluna on those two days.
- The average kcWLuna claim size is around 13.38k (equivalent to approximately 669K USD).
- We can deduce from the average claim size of approximately 669K USD that the wLUNA vault on Katana is primarily used by whales.
