NBA Playoff Usage
Analyze the start of the NBA playoffs (mid-April) and determine whether it had an impact on Flow transaction volume. What about NBA Top Shots?
“Blockchain is going to fundamentally alter the financial industry and have a major impact on consumers. Flow can create the vehicle for consumers to enter the space through products like NBA Top Shot where they have fun, but at the same time create a new self-sovereignty.” Spencer Dinwiddie, NBA Brooklyn Nets, said. Thus, as can be understood, Flow is a novel blockchain developed for the next generation of apps, games, and the digital assets that power them; and NBA Top Shot is one of its communities.
Here, we will examine the impact of the NBA playoffs on Flow transactions by analyzing three factors as below:
-
Contribution of new wallets in Top Shot transactions;
-
Number of Top Shot sales vs total number of transactions;
-
Number of sellers, buyers, and sales for Top Shot.
In the following bar chart, the share of Top Shot sales in the total number of transactions on a daily basis is reported. As can be found, at the very beginning days of starting NBA playoffs, we can see an increasing trend of the tendency to use the Flow blockchain by users. However, it has been reduced in the last days of this time interval.
We can verify this claim by the following line chart. This figure illustrates how much percent of transactions were done for Top Shot. It has up and downs; however, generally, it has a decreasing trend.
Furthermore, the following bar chart shows the number of buyers, sellers, and transactions for Top Shot. Similarly, we can see a decreasing trend in this figure as well.
To sum up, we can see the impact of the NBA playoffs at the starting days by analyzing the three factors mentioned above; however, it has not been sustained for a long time.
As can be seen in the following pie chart, the number of new wallets created to buy Top Shot accounts for around 0.4 percent of all wallets created.
