Earlier this summer, Optimism offered an airdrop to users. Let’s examine the airdrop after a few months.

Questions

• How many users claimed optimism airdrop?
• How much of total airdrop was claimed?
• How many wallets are still holding tokens from airdrop?
• How much of users delegated their OPs?

Feel free to provide any information that you think is related to token price.

Methodology:

A snapshot of addresses was taken on 03-25-2022 0:00 UTC. In total, ==248,699 addresses are eligible to claim OP== in the initial airdrop based on this link. Also ==total token for airdrop was $214,748,364.80== based on Dune analytics. Claiming started at May 31st, 2022.

Based on above finding, I used optimism.core.fact_event_logs table and filtering by below conditions to find airdrop claim transactions.

• date limited from May 31st to now.
• The airdrop contract address is 0xfedfaf1a10335448b7fa0268f56d2b44dbd357de. So the origin_from_address should equal to this contract address.
• we looking to claim transactions so event_name = 'Claimed'.
• There may be multiple transactions for each unique address with the above conditions so we need to find the first one (by time).

I made a simple condition to find those who still kept their airdrops.

The address can be considered an airdrop holder if the number of OP tokens have been transferred is less than the number of tokens that have been received from the airdrop.

I found the airdrop delegated transactions by filtering below conditions:

• event_inputs:delegator = origin_from_address
• event_name = 'DelegateChanged'
• contract_address = '0x4200000000000000000000000000000000000042'

Key finding:

• 158.4 million OP tokens have been claimed by about 149 thousand people so far.
• 73.7% of OP tokens have been claimed by 59.9% of people so far.
• About 60% of the tokens were claimed in the first two days by 45% of people.
• 20% of claimers (30K wallet) hold OP tokens and 80% of them sold their airdrop tokens.
• 73% of claimers (108K wallet) delegate their tokens so far.
