Top Collections based on Volume in USD
First, Let’s examine top collections based on total generated volume in USD on Secondary markets.
- The Top Collection is Terraforms, with 12B US dollars in sales since January 2022. As you can see in the monthly chart, Until May 2022, This collection was the top monthly collection based on total sales volume.
- The second top collection is Meebits, with 9.6B US dollars in sales volume. Like Terraforms, This collection was in the top 3 monthly collections based on total sales volume until May 2022.
- With a huge difference from the first and second collections, DotDotDot, with 2.68B US dollars, is the third top collection. January, February, and March 2022 was the best month for the DotDotDot collection, but it wasn’t in the top 3 monthly collections after that time. It seems the collection generated more money at the beginning of 2022 compared to recent months.
Holding Time

Overall, The average days of holding NFTs is around 41 days.

Bad Banna, with 286 days of holding NFTs, is the top collection-based average days of holding. The second Top collection is Glue Factory show with 266 days of holding. The third collection is baby battle bots with 242 days of holding.

Top Collections based on Gained and Decreased Value
I extracted The median price of NFTs in their First month of launch. Also, I extracted the median price of those NFTs in their last month's sales. Then, I calculated the USD value difference and percentage of price change. I divided my findings into two categories. Based on Percentage and Volume in USD.
Gained:
- Azuki, with 5.9K US dollars growth in NFT price, is the top gained value, and PudgyPresent, with 665% growth, is the top gained collection based on percentage.
- Pudgypenguings, with a 4K US dollars growth in NFT price, is the top second top collection based on gained US dollars, and Genuine Undead, with 512% growth, is the second top collection based on percentage.
Decreased:
- Terraforms, with -247K US dollars, is the top collection that decreased value in Dollars. Meetbits, with -98.02%, is the top collection that decreased value in percentage.
- Also, Meebits, with a -225K dollars decreased value, is the second top collection in Dollars too. Based on percentage, 3landers, with 95% reduced value, is the second top collection based on percentage.
NOTE: I filtered those collections that had more than 100 sales.
Top Collections Based on the Total number of sales and Mints

Let’s take a quick look at top collections based on the total number of sales on the secondary market.

Opensea is the most popular collection, with 53% of total sales among the top 10 collections. Almost all month was in the top 3 collections.

ENS, A domain name, Is the second top collection. This collection was in the top-minted collection too.

Town Star, with 6.7% of total sales, is the third top collection based on the total number of sales.
Top NFTs based on Total Volume in UDS
Secondary sales:
- All top 10 NFTs based on total sales volume belong to two collections. Loot and Meebits.
Mint:
- The Top minted NFT was from the Essence// collection with 8.8M US dollars. 5 NFTs related to RtFKT Clone X Forging SZN 1.
Top Collections based on listed NFTs in Markets
I extracted the total number of mints and the total number of sales on secondary markets. Then, I calculated the percentage of listing NFTs ( SOLD ).
Lowest Ratio:
:1st_place_medal: Uniswap with 0.23% listed NFTs. :2nd_place_medal: Nemetag-General with 0.66% listed NFTs. :3rd_place_medal: Ghost Pirate with 1.01% listed NFTs.
Highest Ratio:
:1st_place_medal: NFTBOX with 99.24% listed NFTs. :2nd_place_medal:Artblocks with 98.1% listed NFTs. :3rd_place_medal: Genuine Undead with 96.7% listed NFTs.
NOTE: I filtered those collections that had more than 100 sales.
Method
Mint, Secondary sales
We have an NFT sales table with all sales on secondary markets recorded in that table. Also, We have a Mint table that all data related to Minting NFTs recorded there. So, I used both tables and extracted the sales and mint activities in 2022.
Gained and Decreased Value
I extracted The median price of NFTs in their First month of launch. Also, I extracted the median price of those NFTs in their last month's sales. Then, I calculated the USD value difference and percentage of price change.
Full Analysis
Mint Vs. Secondary sales

Until May 2, 2022, The total weekly number of sales was similar to Mint transactions, and some weeks there were more sales transactions than mint transactions. But after that time, The total daily number of mint transactions increased and took sales transactions place.

Interestingly, since May 16, The total weekly number of sales decreased, but the total daily number of mint transactions increased.

Overall, The total number of mint transactions was 23M, and secondary sales transactions were 19M.

The highest number of mint transactions was between May and July. On the other side, The highest number of sales transactions was between January and February 2022.

- Unlike the total weekly number of transactions, The total weekly number of Collections and NFTs in sales and mint has increased significantly since January 2022. The total number of collections in secondary sales increased from 2.4K in January to 8K in December 2022. Also, The total weekly minted collections increased from 1.4K to 8.7K.
- There were 154K unique minted collections and 39.7K unique collections in secondary market sales.
- Also, Users minted 1M NFTs and traded 1.1M NFTs on secondary markets.
- Like the total number of transactions, The total weekly number of NFTs in sales decreased, but the total weekly number of minted NFTs increased.

- The total sales volume and mint volume is mind blonding. Users spent 14B US dollars on Minting NFTs and 52.9B US dollars on buying NFTs in secondary markets.
- The best month for NFTs was January and the beginning of February. In those weeks, users bought 5-6B US dollars in NFTs from marketplaces per week.
- The highest mint volume happened during May. In one week, The total mint volume increased to 882M US dollars.
Note: I removed Uniswap and curve finance minted NFTs from my result. Because those NFTs were minted after adding Liquidity, and it’s not NFT.
- The large group of users minted and bought 1-10 NFTs in 2022. The second large group of users minted and bought only 1 NFT. The lowest group of users minted or bought 75-100 NFTs.
- Based on volume, The large group of users spent 100-1K US dollars in secondary markets or mints. On the other side, The lowest group of users spent above 1M US dollars.
So Far, We have examined the top collections on secondary markets based on total sales volume. It’s time to examine top-minted collections based on total sales volume.
- Pixelmon collection, with 75M US dollars, is the top minted collection in 2022. Based on the top 3 monthly minted collections, It seems the mint of this collection was in February.
- With 59M US dollars, Moonbirds was the second top collection based on total mint volume. Based on monthly top-minted collections, The mint of Moonbirds was on April 2022.
- The third top collection was ENS. Actually, ENS is not like other collections. ENS is a domain name, and by buying a domain address, That address is mint as an NFT.
- I can see AZUKI, another popular collection among top-minted collections. The Mint volume was 38M US dollars.

Top Minted Collections based on Total Number of Mints
- As I mentioned Before, ENS is a domain name service with all domains minted as an NFT.
- Art blocks, with 2.8% of total mints and Oogaverse, with 1.98% of total mints are next places.
