What is Near?

NEAR Protocol is a public Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain that aims to bring DeFi to the masses with low transfer fees and fast transactions. NEAR competes with Avalanche, Solana, Cardano, Algorand, the new version of Ethereum, and other PoS networks.
NEAR Protocol relies on making the mainchain (Layer 1) scalable. As such, it offers enterprise-grade performance from the get-go, offering up to 100,000 transactions per second once fully upgraded. As a result, it has gained popularity across all continents to mainstream dApp/Web3 deployment, attracting 1,700 monthly active developers.

Venture capitalists backed NEAR to the tune of $566M so far, led by Andreessen Horowitz, DCG, Coinbase Ventures, Tiger Global, Accomplice, Pantera Capital, Electric Capital, Blockchange, Dragonfly Capital, Blockchain.com, and others.

Total New Wallets on Near is 2.6M in the last three months, and the average number of New users per month was 1.5M.
Near had 104K Active users. Each user with the above 15 transactions is an active user.
39.3M transactions made on Near since October 23.
689 New Contracts deployed on Near in three months, and the total active contracts is 1100.
Prep.spin.Fi.Near was the top contract based on the total number of transactions.
The average fee on Near is 0.003 US dollars.

New Users

Based on the Near weekly report, The First metric is about new and active accounts. First, I examined the daily activities of New Users on Near Chain.

Maybe, The only difference between the below charts and with Near weekly report about new users is Near foundation counted each wallet when they created without or with transactions, but I extracted the Frist transactions on Near Wallets, Then I counted wallets as new wallets. So new wallet should have at least one transaction. However, The Numbers are close to Near Foundation Report.
Between October and the middle of November, The highest number of new wallets joined to Near chain. The total daily number of new users was 40-50K per day. After that, The total daily number of new users decreased until December 20. During December, the total daily number of new users increased by around 90%. It seems New Year had a good start for Near. Since January 10, About 300K new wallets joined the Near chain. It’s a huge number of them.
Overall, Near had 2.6M new wallets in the last 12 weeks.

Full Analysis

Method

About two months ago, I analyzed the Weekly Report of Near for MetricsDao. This Dashboard is about that report, but I analyzed Near Weekly Report for the last couple of weeks. So, Some Metrics could be the same, but I went through Near in a new way and unique analysis.

**Old Analysis About Near Weekly Report: **

Near still is far from the beginning of 2022. The highest number of new users joined Near between April and September. They had 6.2M New users only in May. After the Luna crash, The market went down. Like other chains, The total daily number of new users decreased. Near Had 687K new users, which in comparison to November was 400K lower.
The average number of new users per month is 1.5M, but in the last 12 weeks, The average number of new users was around 800K-1M.

I tracked new users’ activities to see how many days they had been active since they joined Near chain in the last 90 days.

About 789K of new users were active for only one day. This group of users is 67.7% of the total new users.
The second large group of users was active for two days. About 183K of new users were active for two days on Near chain. This group of users is 15.7% of the total new users.
Near had 18.4K new wallets that were active for more than ten days. It is 1.6% of total new users.
The lowest group of new users, 4.2K, were active only for ten days.

We have Active wallets from the previous part and Transactions in this section. I put active wallets and transactions in the same group to understand activities better.

Who Is Active Wallet? Each User who had more than 15 transactions in the last 12 weeks.

Overall, Near had 104K Unique active wallets in the last 90 days. Each of them had more than 15 transactions.
Also, All Near users made 39.3M transactions in only 12 weeks.
Like new wallets, The highest number of transactions on Near was between October 20 and December 20. After that, During the Christmas holidays and New year dropped. Again, Since January 10, 2023, The total daily Number of Transactions increased significantly from 300K per day to 635K. ( LINE IS TRANSACTIONS )
Active wallets declared in the Red bar in the below chart, Had more activities during November. Transactions decreased for a month but In January increased their activities.

On every transaction you send to the network, NEAR charges you a fee (aka gas fee). This fee is used to pay the people who keep the network infrastructure indirectly and to incentivize smart contract developers.
Like the Number of transactions and users, Gas fees and Gas used are two essential parameters for Near foundation.
Users paid 62K Near on Near, worth 125K US dollars, in the last 12 weeks. The average fee on Near is only 0.0015 Near or 0.003 US dollars.
Due to the Near Price, The average and total fees decreased over time. The highest fee was paid by Near users Between October 20 and November 9.

Smart contracts are simple programs that live in a NEAR network. As with any modern application, smart contracts store data and expose methods for interacting with them.
Contracts are important for Near because they report about it every week.
The growth of New and active contracts is a good factor for Near health.
Almost 689 new contracts deployed on Near blockchain in the last 12 weeks. Between November 20 and the beginning of December, The highest number of new contracts deployed to the Near chain.
After December 1, The total daily number of new contracts decreased from 20-40 to below 10.
Overall, There were 1130 unique contracts on Near since October 20, 2023.
On the monthly chart, You can see that the highest number of active contracts were between January and May 2022, before Luna's crash.

As I mentioned Before, Each user with more than 15 transactions in the last 90 days is an active user. In the chart below, You can see the average number of transactions by active and new users.

During the last 12 weeks, The average number of Active users was 20 transactions. Only At the beginning of November, The average number of transactions by active users increased to 36. On the other side, The average number of transactions by new users was 2-3.

I extracted top interacted contracts in the last 90 days based on the total number of transactions.

Following that, Perp.spin.Fi.near had the highest number of transactions which was 879K. It is 71.8% of total transactions.
