What are layer 2s?

Layer 2 (L2) is a collective term to describe a specific set of Ethereum scaling solutions. Layer 2 is a separate blockchain that extends Ethereum and inherits the security guarantees of Ethereum.

What is UniSwap?

Uniswap is a cryptocurrency exchange that uses a decentralized network protocol. Uniswap is also the name of the company that initially built the Uniswap protocol. The protocol facilitates automated transactions between cryptocurrency tokens on the Ethereum blockchain through the use of smart contracts. 

What is Sushiswap?

SushiSwap enables people to become liquidity providers in order for other people to exchange tokens within token pairs. For instance, if one were to exchange ETH for USDC, they would go to an ETH/USDC liquidity pool. This is a smart contract that locks coins people provided, either ETH or USDC.

Methodology

In this dashboard, we will look a the activity of Sushiswa vs. Uniswap on the blockchains Arbitrum, Optimism, and Polygon. We will be measuring the DEX activity in terms of interactions and active users. the data for this dashboard comes from the optimism.core, arbitrum.core, and polygon.core tables of Flipside’s database.

Observations

• During summer 2022, Uniswap had more activity than Sushiswap and continues to have more activity on Optimism
• In total there have been 343K interactions with Uniswap and Sushiswap from 62.1K wallets on Optimism
• Uniswap has much more interaction on Optimism

Polygon DEX activity

Observations

• During summer 2022, Uniswap had more activity than Sushiswap, but since September Sushiswap has been gaining the lead in activity
• In total there have been 574K interactions with Uniswap and Sushiswap from 100K wallets on Arbitrum
• There was very similar activity on Uniswp and Sushiswap on Arbitrum
• Users seem to interact with Sushiswap more overall on Abitrum

Observations

• During summer 2022, Sushiswap had more activity than Uniswap, but since September Uniswap has been gaining the lead in activity
• In total there have been 18.8 million interactions with Uniswap and Sushiswap from 1.735 million wallets on Polygon
• Sushiswap has much more interaction on polygon
