OSMO Token Review

    Introduction

What is Osmosis? One of the main DEXs in the Cosmos Ecosystem is Osmosis. Users can natively trade assets from more than 30 different chains within the Cosmos Ecosystem, and it performs cross-chain between sub-chains in the Ecosystem.

    Questions

    • How has the ratio of liquid to staked OSMO changed over time?
    • Are the top 100 OSMO holders the same now as they were at the start of the year?
    • What is the current average OSMO per wallet? How has that value changed over time? Plot average OSMO/wallet against user growth.
    • Do wallets normally hold a majority of OSMO or another token? How has this changed over time?

    Methodology

    • In this dashboard, OSMO tokens on Osmosis have been analyzed in 4 Sections:

      • Osmosis users holdings
      • Top 100 OSMO holders
      • Average OSMO per wallet
      • Liquid to staked OSMO ratio
    • This dashboard uses the Osmosis database and the following tables to extract information:

      • osmosis.core.dim_prices

      • osmosis.core.fact_daily_balances

    • Osmosis users are mostly holding OSMOin their wallets. As the donut chart shows 86.5% of tokens in the Osmosis wallet addresses is OSMO token. 7.92% is Atom as the second biggest asset in the wallet addresses of Osmosis users

    • over time we can see the OSMO amount in the Osmosis user's wallets changes a lot. From May until the end of June, users decreased their OSMO holdings. This has changed since the beginning of July as users are holding more and more OSMO each week

    • It is good to mention other tokens like Atom have shown the same pattern, Although the amount of Atom in the Osmosis user's wallet starts to decrease again since mid-September until today

    • These charts show the fact that the number of OSMO whales is increasing on Osmosis as they are more Green dots today as there were purple dots at the start of the year

    • Whale number one at the start of the year is also number one today with even more OSMO holdings

    • we had only 3 whales with more than 2 million OSMO holdings at the start of the year but today we have 9 whales with more than 2 million OSMO holding

    • The current average OSMO per wallet for today is 868.38

    • Over time we have seen a sharp increase in the average OSMO per wallet to above 3000 OSMO per wallet in Aug and Sep 2021 ( early days of the project), Since then a downtrend in the average OSMO per wallet can be seen

    • The third chart clearly shows the fact that with user growth in the Osmosis chain we have seen a decline in the average OSMO Per Wallet. This is because the more mature a chain gets and the more user come into it the more retail and smallholders join the chain too which led to a smaller average OSMO per wallet overtime

    • Currently, there are more than 384 million OSMO as liquid OSMO and around 35 million as Staked OSMO in the Osmosis

    • Since the first day of 2022, we can see mostly we have Liquid staked OSMO 2-2.5x more than Staked OSMO. This has changed over time between 2x up to 2.5x and then down close to 2x ratio again

    • Since October we have seen a sharp increase in the liquid-to-staked ratio to above 2.5x and close to 3x which shows users are more willing to choose liquid staking recently, especially we can see in this period the staked amount declined from 178 million OSMO down to 135 million OSMO which led to bigger liquid to staked ratio

    Conclusion

Osmosis users are growing and more whales are holding OSMO tokens compared to a few months ago. These users are more and more choosing liquid staking as people are getting more familiar with liquid staking Advantages.
