Polkadot pool on Osmosis
Introduction:
On Jul 25th, Osmosis presented a proposal to include the Polkadot pool OSMO/DOT(#773) into the set of assets that receive OSMO liquidity incentives.
After this proposal has passed governance, pool #773 will be added to the regular incentives program of OSMO. This route via Axelar and Moonbeam was voted to be the current canonical bridge in Osmosis Proposal 249. DOT is the Moonbeam wrapped version of Polkadot and requires unwrapping on the Moonbeam network from xcDOT after passing through the Axelar bridge to become native DOT.
This proposal ended on Jul 30th and more than 87% said Yes to this proposal so it passed.
Question:
Like most assets in the last two years, DOT saw a meteoric rise in 2021 followed by a crater in 2022. However, DOT there still remains a little bit of DOT liquidity and volume flowing through Osmosis.
- Is the trading activity of DOT on Osmosis real user activity, or is this just arbitrageurs?
- How many users are active in Pool 773 every day, week, month?
Methodology:
In this dashboard, I tried to focus on Dot in the Osmosis ecosystem. For this purpose used core.fact_liquidity_provider_actions
and
core.fact_swaps
tables.
To filter all LP transactions related to the DOT pool, used the following conditions:
-
currency = 'ibc/3FF92D26B407FD61AE95D975712A7C319CDE28DE4D80BDC9978D935932B991D7'
-
action = 'pool_joined' --for add liquidity
action = 'pool_exited' --for remove liquidity
-
project_name = 'DOT.axl'
-
pool_id = 773
-
tx_status = 'SUCCEEDED'
To filter all DOT swaps, used the following conditions:
-
from_currency = 'ibc/3FF92D26B407FD61AE95D975712A7C319CDE28DE4D80BDC9978D935932B991D7' --for swap from DOT to other tokens
to_currency = 'ibc/3FF92D26B407FD61AE95D975712A7C319CDE28DE4D80BDC9978D935932B991D7' --for swap from other tokens to DOT
-
project_name = 'DOT.axl'
-
tx_status = 'SUCCEEDED'
To filter arbitrageurs, I consider the following condition: those who made more than 100 tx from and to DOT is arbitrageurs.
Also, I should mention the decimals amount of DOT is 10.
These charts show the daily volume inflow and outflow of the DOT pool in the Osmosis ecosystem.
As you can see:
- The inflow amount is much more than the outflow amount.
- The daily liquidity (inflow - outflow) is always positive.
- The moving average chart shows us the trend of volume is descending.
These charts show the daily number of inflow and outflow transactions of the DOT pool in the Osmosis ecosystem.
As you can see:
- The number of inflow transactions is much more than the outflow transactions.
- The moving average chart shows us the trend of transactions count hasn’t any notable change.
These charts show the daily number of unique users who add or remove liquidity of the DOT pool in the Osmosis ecosystem.
As you can see:
- The number of users who add liquidity is much more than those who remove liquidity.
- The moving average chart shows us the trend of unique user count hasn’t any notable change.
The above chart shows that most add liquidity transactions to DOT pool containing less than 1 DOT while most remove liquidity transactions from DOT pool containing between 10 and 100 DOT. But I should mention the number of added liquidity is much more than the number of removed liquidity.
The above chart shows that the volume of all add liquidity transactions that fall in > 1000 DOT category is much more than other categories while the volume of all remove liquidity transactions that fall between 10 and 100 DOT is much more than other categories.
The result for adding liquidity is different from the left chart but removing liquidity is the same as the thing we saw there.
These charts show the daily volume and number of DOT swaps. The swapping from DOT and swapping to DOT are shown separately.
As you can see:
- The volume of swapped to DOT is much more than swapped from DOT.
- The moving average chart shows us the trend of volume descending (both in the swap from and swap to).
- The total number of transactions of swap to DOT is much more than swap from DOT.
- The moving average chart shows us the trend of unique user count hasn’t any notable change and it is stable.
The above charts show which token is most popular than others for swapping from DOT in different terms (number of swaps - volume of swaps - number of unique swappers).
he above charts show which token is most popular than others for swapping to DOT in different terms (number of swaps - volume of swaps - number of unique swappers).
The above charts show which swap pair is most popular than others in the DOT pools in different terms (number of swaps - volume of swaps - number of unique swappers).
The above charts show us the size of the most swap transactions is less than 1 DOT and with a little difference, the second place belongs to between 10 and 100 DOT. While the most total volume fall in between 100 and 1,000 DOT category.
Conclusion:
- DOT pools on Osmosis are new.
- The added liquidity amount is much more than the removed liquidity amount in the DOT pools. The daily liquidity (added amount - removed amount) is always positive. The trend of liquidity descending. Also, the number of add liquidity transactions is much more than the remove liquidity transactions and the trend of the number of liquidity transactions hasn’t any notable change. In addition, most add liquidity transactions to DOT pool containing less than 1 DOT while most remove liquidity transactions from DOT pool containing between 10 and 100 DOT.
- The volume of swapped to DOT is much more than swapped from DOT. The trend of volume descending (both in the swap from and swap to). Also, the total number of transactions of swap to DOT is much more than swap from DOT and the trend of unique swapper count hasn’t any notable change and it is stable.
- ATOM is most popular than others for swapping from DOT in terms of the number of swaps, USDC in terms of the volume of swaps, and OSMO in terms of the number of unique swappers.
- OSMO is most popular than others for swapping to DOT in terms of the number of swaps, USDC in terms of the volume of swaps, and OSMO in terms of the number of unique swappers.
- OSMO to DOT is most popular than others in the DOT pools in terms of the number of swaps, USDC to DOT in terms of the volume of swaps, and OSMO to DOT in terms of the number of unique swappers.
- The size of most swap transactions is less than 1 DOT While the most total volume fall in between 100 and 1,000 DOT category.
- there are maximum two daily unique arbitrageurs on this pool. The number of transactions by these two users was more than real users from Aug to the end of Oct but after that, their activity decreased.
- The number of swaps made by arbitrageurs is more than real users while the volume of swaps made by real users is more than arbitrageurs.

As you can see there are maximum 2 daily unique arbitrageurs on this pool. The number of transactions by these two users was more than real users since Aug to end of Oct but after that, their activity decreased.
Cumulative swaps count shows the number of swaps made by arbitrageurs is more than real users while the volume of swaps made by real users is more than arbitrageurs.
The daily swaps volume chart shows there is competition between two types of users in total daily volume.
Above charts show daily active users on pool #773. As you can see the number of active users is decreasing over time.
