FLOW Usage During the NBA Playoffs

    What is Flow?

    Flow is a blockchain designed to function with high scalability without using sharding techniques. With this, users on the blockchain can carry out cheap and fast transactions. The blockchain was designed explicitly for dApps that need a very high scaling like NFT platforms. Crypto play to earn games have also tapped into the usage of the blockchain, providing its users with a swift gaming experience. Dapper Labs created the blockchain after a few issues surrounding congestion on its previous blockchain, Ethereum. The blockchain now hosts an array of crypto games, including the NBA Top Shot, a game that its parent company developed. Developers who intend to create dApps can also tap the blockchain due to its high scalability and swift performance

    Analysis:

    If we look at the first graph on the left we can see the volume of NBA TopShot sales over time, if we look at the period from May 17th-29th we can see that the daily sales volume didn’t spike and if anything it continued on the downward trend it had previously been on before the playoff, which is the same trend that it continued on after the playoffs ended. It appears that the NBA playoffs really had no effect on the sales volume of these NFTs as they just continued the way they were previously going. If we look at the graph on the right that shows total TopShot sales we can see that same pattern we saw before as it continues on a downward trend through May 17th-29th with no real notable spikes.

    Analysis:

    If we look at the first graph on our left we can see the total sales volume of NBA TopShots by Team during the NBA playoffs from May 17th-29th, from this we can see that the leading team in sales volume is the Golden State Warriors with 164K in total sales, although it is no leading by a massive amount with the following team the Dallas Mavericks having 135k in sales volume. For the most part many of these teams have very similar total volume throughout the NBA playoffs, additionally it follows that the Golden State Warriors had the highest sales volume as they won the NBA playoffs and were the favorites to win it throughout the playoffs. If we move onto the graph on the right we can see the breakdown of daily Sales volume of these NBA TopShots by team. As you can see the golden state warriors sales volume remained consistent throughout the playoffs and really spikes after the playoffs ended once they had won the NBA finals. On the other hand other teams had significant sales volume during and before there exit from the playoffs, but that began to slow down once the playoffs came to an end.

    Conclusion:

    1. The total sales and sales volume of NBA TopShots during the NBA playoffs did not change, and continued following the downward trend it had been following previously to which it continued to follow after the playoffs ended.
    2. The Golden State Warriors received the largest sales volume of NBA TopShots during the Playoffs which makes sense as they won the NBA playoffs and were the favorite to win the majority of the time.
