Gas as a proxy of activity
How much did sushi users pay for gas in 2022? Is there a correlation with the price of ETH? Can you comment on the spikes in the chart?
SushiSwap is a software running on Ethereum that seeks to incentivize a network of users to operate a platform where users can buy and sell crypto assets. Similar to platforms like Uniswap and Balancer, SushiSwap uses a collection of liquidity pools to achieve this goal.
In this dashboard I looked the amount of Gas paid in ETH from the start of 2022. I then looked at that amount daily since the start of 2022 and converted to USD to get a better read on how much is actually being paid. Lastly I graphed the price of ETH since the start of 2022 to compare to the gas paid to see how they are connected to one another.

Daily Price of ETH (Since Start of 2022)
Since the start of 2022 47.7k in ETH has been paid in gas fee's for Sushi users. If we move onto the second metric we can see a daily breakdown of these fee's in USD. At the beggining of 2022 they were much larger with frequent spikes to nearly 4M or greater on the day. Although since the start of 2022 the amount of gas paid has been trending downwards, staying at less than 1M on most days start early February. Although on May 11th and 12 there was a spike up to 3.3M and 4.3M respectively, but besides that the gas paid has remained pretty low being below 200k within recent months. Since the gas is paid in ETH a fluctuation in the price of ETH will effect how much gas is paid over that time period. Overall though it appears that as the price of ETH goes up so do the total gas fee's paid and when the price of ETH goes down so does the total gas fee's paid.

The gas fee's paid on sushi are effected by the price of ETH as the fee's are paid in ETH.
