Algorand ALGO movement Sizes
ALGO is the native token on the ALGORAND blockchain. Being the native token mean, its also the most liquid and most used token on the blockchain. In this dashboard, we will look at the sizes of transactions in terms of ALGO carried through.
We will use the algorand.payment_transactions
table to aggregate Payment data. This data will be then grouped in the following buckets:
- less than 10 ALGOs
- 10 to 100 ALGOs
- 100 to 1000 ALGOs
- 1000 to 10000 ALGOs
- 10000 to 100000 ALGOs
- more than 100000 ALGOs
First we will plot the overall distribution since January.

- As expected 0-10 ALGOs bucket is the largest. This is the trend in every crypto
- However, similarities stop there. More than 100,000 ALGO is the 2nd largest bucket, which is extremely unlike other cryptos
- More importantly, this greater than 100,000 ALGO is larger than all the remaining buckets put together.
- This is an indication of significant disparity, huge amount of whales and sub-10 transactions, while the middle area is extremely low frequency
Plotting daily data, we get ...

- The trend that was detected above, is also holding up in the daily, which implies the trend was not an aberration or an outlier
- Almost all the transaction volumes have seen a general downtrend. Even the smaller buckets
- Only outlier is the more than 100,000 ALGOs is relatively stable and has grown over the past few months.
- This could be suggesting Algorand blockchain reaching equilibrium with fewer protocol launches, which means lesser liquidity movement to take advantage of incentives, while only whale activity is still going on.
Overall trend on Algorand is that, the activity is slowing down. However, whales seems to be consistent in terms of activity. This means, there are lesser new avenues for users to move their liquidity. On the other hand, whales running bots are still active.
