    What is Optimism?

Optimism is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum that can support all of Ethereum’s Dapps. Instead of running all computation and data on the Ethereum network, Optimism puts all transaction data on-chain and runs computation off-chain, increasing Ethereum’s transactions per second and decreasing transaction fees.

    Optimism airdrop #1

Optimism has announced the launch of their governance token “OP” and confirmed to airdrop 19% (5% for the first round) of the total supply to early and future Optimism users. Optimism Users, Repeat Optimism Users, DAO Voters, Multisig Signers, Gitcoin Donors, and Users Priced Out of Ethereum by the snapshot date are eligible to claim the airdrop. The snapshot of the addresses was taken on March 25th, 2022 at 0:00 UTC.

The Optimism Foundation’s Airdrop #1 rewards those who have been instrumental as early adopters and active users of projects in the Optimism ecosystem. To celebrate our Ethereum roots, The Optimism Foundation also wants to welcome active L1 participants who can help scale Ethereum’s innovations, culture, and values to Layer 2. In total, 248,699 addresses are eligible to claim OP in this initial airdrop.

    # of users (claimers)

    • As we see, claims started on 31 May and about 41k of total users claimed their airdrop on the first day. Most users claimed their tokens on the second day, June 1, which were over 73k users.
    • After that day, the number of daily claims decreased to below 10,000 claims per day, and for 1 week, this number was above 1,000 users daily, but after this date, the number of daily claims decreased to below 1,000.
    • It is interesting that in recent days we have also had claims which are approximately 30-40 claims per day.
    • There are 150.8k unique addresses that claimed their tokens. In total, 248,699 addresses are eligible to claim OP in this initial airdrop.

    Amount of $OP

    • As we can see, in the first 2 days, on average, about 60 million $OP tokens were claimed every day. In the previous chart, which was the number of addresses, there was a huge difference between the number of addresses on the first day and the second day, but in this chart, the amount of $OP tokens claimed on these 2 days is not much different. This shows that the users who claimed on the first day were allocated more tokens.
    • In total, about 159.8M tokens have been claimed, which is a very high amount with the good price of this airdrop.
    • The amount of $OP tokens allocated for this round was around 214.7M tokens, of which around 159.8M tokens were claimed, which is equal to 74.4% of the amount allocated for the first round.

    Holders vs. non-holders

    Methodology

    • In this dashboard, first, I will show general information about claiming $OP airdrop, such as # of users who claimed their airdrop per day, the amount of $OP token claimed per day, the total amount of tokens claimed, amount of tokens allocated for the first round of airdrop, and the percentage of tokens claimed.
    • In the second part, we are going to find out what the users who claimed did with their $OP tokens. Do they hold their tokens or not? If they didn't keep them, what did they do with them? Have they transferred them directly to another account or have they done a swap or LP action?
    • The third section belongs to delegations. I’ll show what percentage of users have done delegation after claiming their airdrop. Which addresses have been delegated the most? How long was the interval between token claiming and delegation?

    Delegates

    Holders vs. non-holders

    • As we see from the left chart, most users didn’t hold their $OP tokens. They were about 134.9k users which is 89.5% of total claimers. Just 15.8k users hold their whole $OP tokens which are about 10.5% of the total.
    • Among non-holders, over 78.1k of them have done swap or LP actions, and over 73.2k has just done the direct transfer.

    Delegates

    • Around 108.8k users, delegated to delegators after claiming their tokens which is about 73.5% of total claimers, and 40k didn’t delegate to any delegators which are 26.5% of the total.
    • Most users delegated to 0x5e3...a09ee (lindajxie.eth) which are over 15k unique addresses delegated to this address. The second address with the most number of delegation to it is 0xb1e...e8251 with over 13.2k unique delegators.
    • The third place belongs to 0xa6e...beef6 with 5,676 unique delegators.
    • The 0x429...08892 and 0x48a...2fab0 follows them in 4th and 5th places with 5,577 and 4,958 delegators respectively.
    • Most users delegate on the same day of claiming their airdrop, which is over 110k delegates occurred on the first day of the claim.
    • After that, the second most delegations occurred on the 2nd day after claiming the drop which is over 3.2k delegates.
