NBA Playoff (16 June) Usage
Bounty question: Analyze the start of the NBA playoffs (mid-April) and determine whether it had an impact on Flow transaction volume. What about NBA Top Shots?
What is Flow?
Flow (FLOW) is a high-performance blockchain specifically for creating NFTs, massive crypto games, and apps. Unlike general-purpose blockchains such as Ethereum, Flow is built to efficiently scale for potentially billions of people interacting with NFTs like in-game items.
What is NBA top shot marketplace?
NBA Top Shot is a joint digital collectibles venture between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Dapper Labs, the latter of which released the pioneering non-fungible token (NFT) trading platform CryptoKitties in 2017.
Transaction Volume
Three different diagrams are plotted below. The first diagram is a comparison between the volume of flow transactions and the NBA Top Shots. The second chart shows the daily transactions on the NBA Top Shots platform and finally, the third chart shows the total daily transactions on the Flow network. As you can see, the day-to-day transactions on the Flow Network and the Top Shots platform are not the same.
Summary
In the present work, two issues were examined:
1- The volume of daily Flow transactions
2- The volume of the NBA Top Shots platform transactions
The results showed that:
-
The volume of flow transactions is much larger than the total NBA Top Shots platform transactions.
-
The impact of the NBA playoffs on total numerical Flow transactions has been minimal and has not changed its trend because the volume of daily Flow transactions is much higher than the sale of the Top Shots NFTs.
-
The start of the playoffs games has increased transactions of the NBA Top Shots.
The following chart shows the daily transactions of Flow. This chart shows that a large volume has been traded over June. Furthermore, June 25 recorded the highest number of transactions, while May 1 recorded the lowest number of transactions. Regarding the trend, it can be said that several waves have occurred in this chart and but two bigger peaks are shown in June. All in All, in the mid of April (the start day of the NBA playoffs), there was no significant impact on transaction volume of Flow.
The following chart shows the daily transactions on the NBA Top Shots platform. This chart shows that a large volume was traded on this trading platform in April. May 6 recorded the highest number of transactions, while June 18 recorded the lowest number of transactions for the platform. Regarding the trend, it can be said that the trend was upward at the beginning of the basketball competitions and has been declining to the present day, which shows that the interest for this collection has decreased.
