Introduction

What Is Optimism (OP)?

Optimism (OP) is a layer-two blockchain on top of Ethereum. Optimism benefits from the security of the Ethereum mainnet and helps scale the Ethereum ecosystem by using optimistic rollups. That means transactions are trustlessly recorded on Optimism but ultimately secured on Ethereum.

Optimism is one of the biggest scaling solutions for Ethereum with over $300 million in TVL. It is home to 35 protocols, the biggest being Synthetix (SNX), a derivatives exchange, Uniswap (UNI), a DEX, and Velodrome (VELO), an AMM. Users can begin their journey on Optimism by adding the chain on their Metamask and bridging tokens like ETH to the L2. On May 31, 2022, Optimism conducted a highly anticipated airdrop of its OP token. The airdrop was so popular that it briefly slowed down the Optimism blockchain.

An overview of this article

This article tries to discuss Airdrop Optics. On June 1, nearly 249,000 registered users received the newly launched Optimism token via airdrop. Most of the eligible wallets have already claimed their airdrops, but a few have not yet claimed their airdrops. This article has three sections including:

Methodology

Flipside tables have been used to extract data. The most important tables used in this article are:

• “optimism.core.fact_token_transfers“ was used to extract all eligible wallets for Optimism airdrops
• “optimism.velodrome.ez_swaps“ and “optimism.sushi.ez_swaps“ were used to extract swaps data
• “optimism.core.fact_event_logs“ and “optimism.core.fact_delegations“ were used to extract OP transactions and delegations data.

Observations

• The highest number of OP swaps was on the "Velodrome" platform.
• A small part of all swaps has been on the SushiSwap platform.
• On July 29, the largest volume of swaps took place on "Velodrome"

Conclusion

• 60 percent of all eligible wallets have claimed their airdrop.
• Almost 74% of all airdropped tokens have been claimed so far.
• Most eligible wallets have received between 100 and 1000 tokens.
• Most of Optimism's airdrop participants have sold all or part of their tokens after claiming them.
• Only 11% of the wallets have not transferred the OP tokens after getting them and keep them in their main wallet.
• Less than 2% of all eligible wallets have delegated their tokens.
• The largest number of delegators staked their tokens in the first week immediately after the airdrop date (1 JUNE).
• The "LindaXie" platform has the most delegates.
• The highest number of OP swaps was on the "Velodrome" platform.

Observations

• Most of Optimism's airdrop participants have sold all or part of their tokens after claiming them.
• Only 11% of the wallets have not transferred the OP tokens after getting them and keep them in their main wallet.
• Less than 2% of all eligible wallets have delegated their tokens.
• The largest number of delegators staked their tokens in the first week immediately after the airdrop date (1 JUNE).
• Recently, in September, the number of delegates has increased.
• The "LindaXie" platform has the most delegates.

Observations

• Almost 74% of all airdropped tokens have been claimed so far.
• Most eligible wallets have received between 100 and 1000 tokens.
• OP and Ethereum price changes are almost similar to each other.
