NEAR Performance

Q5. How does NEAR stock up to other L1s in terms of speed and performance? How fast is NEAR, and compare it with other blockchain speeds in terms of transactions per minute and percentage of transactions that fail.

    Overview

This dashboard aimed to check the NEAR protocol performance in terms of transactions per minute or TPM and the percentage of failed transactions. First, we examined the mentioned features for the NEAR protocol; second, we compared it with other L1 blockchains.

    Approach

We used the .transactions table for this bounty to calculate TPM and the percentage of failed transactions for L1s. For calculating TPM, we counted all transactions that occurred in a day and then divided it by 1440 (converting a day to minutes).

    NEAR Performance

The right-side table shows the general performance of the NEAR protocol since Sep 1st. Accordingly, 156M transactions occurred in which 135M(87%) succeeded and 20M (13%) failed. During this period, the TPM for the NEAR protocol was 291.

Comparison between NEAR and L1 blockchains in terms of TPM

The following two Area charts show the TPM for the NEAR and other top L1 blockchains since Apr 2022. In this period Solana with an average of 16K TPM, ranked first place, and after that Polygon, with 1.7K TPM, placed second, and Algorand, with an average of 781 TPM, got the third rank. NEAR with 341 TPM has nothing to say compared to other blockchains and still needs working.

Note: To show better, we have to separate the Solana from other blockchains.

    Conclusion:

    1. NEAR protocol Compared to other mentioned blockchains, ranked seventh in terms of TPM and second in terms of failed transactions.
    2. Since Apr 2022, Solana acquired the first rank with an average of 16K TPM, and 33.7failed transactions.
    3. ETHEREUM, with 3.8%, had the least failed transactions.

    The NEAR TPM

The following area chart represents the TPM since Sep 2021. Based on the chart, the trend of TPM was ascending from Sep to Jan 2022, but after Jan, the TPM decreased considerably. The most TPM occurred on Jan 16th with 1151.

Breakdown the NEAR transactions in terms of status

The bar chart on the right shows the number of transactions since Sep 2022 on the NEAR protocol. The trend in the number of transactions is similar to the previous chart. The point is that the number of False transactions increased in the two periods. The first period was from Dec 23rd to Jan 17th, and the second was from Apr 1st to May 13th.

Comparison Between NEAR and L1 Blockchains in terms of Percentage of Fail Transactions

The following bar chart compares the Top layer 1s blockchains in terms of the percentage of failed transactions since Apr 2022. Accordingly, with 33.7%, Solana had the most failed transactionsNEAR with 21% placed after that, and FLOW with 11.6% placed third. The point is ETHEREUM, with 3.86% had the least failed transactions.

Note: To run the query below the 15 Minutes, we have to separate the Solana from other blockchains.
