DAOHaus Dashboard

    The present dashboard aims to provide stakeholders with core protocol metrics around Moloch-based DAOs as well as current trends in DAOHAus DAO tooling usage. It aggregates data from most of the networks where Moloch activity happens, including Ethereum mainnet, GnosisChain, Polygon, Arbitrum One and Optimism

    • GnosisChain is currently the main Haus for DAOs with over 1.7k orgs deployed (a.k.a summoned) in the network
    • Polygon is in 2nd place in terms of # of DAOs, however you'll see that Ethereum reports more activity + Total Value Locked (TVL) in assets
    • MolochV2.1 is still the most used version of the protocol

    Below you can find an overview of DAOs on-chain activity trends over different networks. As a first step, we tagged DAO activity status based on a simple heurictic and listed the most active organizations based on total on-chain actions performed.

    Most of the Top-20 most active DAOs are MolochV2 living in GnosisChain, however there a few MolochV1 DAOs in Ethereum that still report high overall activity but these are no longer active as these communities migrated/upgraded to a newer version of the DAO (e.g. MolochDAO migrated to Moloch Rises)

    Among the Top-10 most active DAOs, we can highlight the following Orgs:

    On the other hand, it is important to highlight SupDucks DAO as the first MolochV3.x based DAO in the Ethereum network that reaches the Top-30 most active DAOs. MolochV3 codename Baal was released in Q1 2023 and this community is already embracing new coordination tools built by the DAOHaus team.

    DAO Activity

    How did we labelled DAOs based on activity?

    • Thriving: >= 200 actions`
    • High Activity: 50 <= actions < 200
    • Somewhat Active: 15 <= actions < 50
    • Low Activity: 5 <= actions < 15
    • Inactive: < 5 actions

    DAOHaus and Moloch DAOs in general use 3rd party contracts to help manage the DAO treasury assets and perform arbitrary contract calls to other protocols within the same network (and even cross-chain messaging). DAOs can summon (a.k.a deploy) any number of vaults they want through the DAOHaus platform. These vaults have evolved through time and come in different flavours:

    • Ad-hoc MInions: these are purpose-specific vault contracts developed either by the DAOHaus team or the wider MolochDAO community
    • Safes: (Gnosis) Safes vaults started to be integrated with MolochDAOs due to the robustness and security they provide, that's why it is the most used type of vault to date. MolochV3 natively adopted Safes as its main vault for asset management and transaction engine to perform arbitrary contract call interactions.

    The Figures below can help the DAOHaus Core team to track vault adoption and usage, which is important when deciding on the efforts that should be taken regarding protocol + platform maintenance.

    • NOTE: It is important to mention that for the analysis in this section, we only considered network native assets + ERC20 tokens.

    Platform TVL

    • While there's almost 6M USD in assets stored in DAOs treasuries, most of the DAO communities hold stablecoins (~$2M USD).

    Network TVL

    • Even though GnosisChain is considered the blockchain where DAOHaus platform has most of its user base, the TVL held by DAOs in Ethereum is greater than sum of TVL of the rest of the networks.

    • However, it is worth to say that there's a report that 100 WETH has been blocked forever within the first MolochDAO.

    • On the other hand, it is important to emphasize the TVL in Polygon as DAO activity in this network is not much compared to what happens in GnosisChain

    • Lasly, current TVL in L2s reflects the low activity happening in the few DAOs deployed in these networks, so there's a huge untapped opportunity to expand operations and user adoption

    What is DAOHaus?

    DAOHaus is a protocol for purpose-driven on-chain governance. It is governed by shareholders, consisting of users and builders of the protocol, and provides communities the capabilities to decentrally coordinate and govern around their values and mission.

    The latest version of DAOHaus V3 provides a platform for Governance and App legos that help the community build an INFINITE COMPOSABLE MOLOCH FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD

    What it Moloch?

    👹 Moloch whose mind is pure machinery! Moloch whose blood is running money! 👹

    MolochDAO is a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) deployed on Ethereum mainnet that allow members to contribute capital with the sole intention of giving it all away to fund Ethereum infrastructure as an essential digital public good.

    Moloch is constantly evolving:

    • A strategy to beat Moloch was hypothesised, and Moloch v1 was an experiment to validate it. Many other communities started to fork its code
    • Moloch v2 expanded on its success and evolved into a Minimally Viable For-Profit DAO. Any purpose-driven community could one-click deploy its own DAO through the DAOHaus platform
    • Moloch V3 (codename Baal) turned into a minimal yet composable DAO template

    Up to date, there are over 3k Moloch DAOs deployed over different networks where DAOHaus lives to help people to coordinate and secure over 5M USD in assets. As you'll notice, GnosisChain overtakes Ethereum as the blockchain network where most of the DAO activities happen (mostly due to high network fees), however activities on L2s have been slowly increasing since Q3 2022.

    Activity Stats (Last 6 months)

    Below, you can find a quick summary of platform activity during the last 6 months. You can adjunt the time frame (days) in the parameter at the top of this dashboard.

    On-chain DAO Activity

    Monthly On-chain User Activity

    Figures below evidence that most of the on-chain user activity happens on GnosisChain, while Ethereum and Polygon report a particularly simlar trend.

    You'll notice a spike in montly active users in GnosisChain within the period between October to November 2021. During this time, a spam attack happened in the platform so the DAOHaus team decided to activate a proposal spam filter to allow DAOs to mitigate this kind of events

    If we look at On-chain activity in terms of DAO protocol versions, MolochV2.1 is still the most used version of the Moloch contracts, while activity in V1 and V2 DAOs decreased considerably since the the end of Q2 2022

    Figures below help to identify the market share in terms of montly active users among different networks and versions of MolochDAO contracts. Even if GnosisChain became the main Haus for DAOs in January 2021, there has been a constant rise in on-chain DAO activities performed on Ethereum during 2022 until today, taking up to 30% share in terms of user activity during the last months.

    Last but not least, montly active users interacting with the new MolochV3.x contracts keep increasing since the beta launch in October 2022, and this numbers will keep. going up as existing DAO communities start migrating to the new version of Moloch (codename Baal) offered by the DAOHaus platform.
